KANSAS CITY WEEKLY POWER RANKINGS!!!

This has been one of the strongest weeks for protest and grassroots community action in Kansas City's history.

Accordingly, here's a quick list of the local power players who came out on top . . . CHECKIT:

Alissia Canady Saved The Paseo

Without the support of this former council lady, a small group of Northeast protesters would have been dead in the water. She leveraged their activism to make a great showing in the Mayoral race and then boosted her name recognition during a national debate. Ms. Canady was the real spokesman for this movement and more than anyone else she benefits from the otherwise questionable Northeast efforts comprised mostly of shady characters and political hopefuls who aren't yet ready for prime time.

KC Tenants Fight For Bill Of Rights

They're working with City Hall and reject any criticism. This social justice group hopes to transform the local housing scene and this week's postponement might only be a temporary delay for a transformative change that offers KCMO the first glimpse of an impending American Democratic Socialist revolution.

Mayor Quinton Lucas Destroys Opponents With Kindness In Classic Kansas City Style

He has hit the 100 day mark without a major scandal and seems to be relatively popular despite an important loss this week for the ordinance he authored during his tenure on Council. Mayor Quinton has pushed gun control but not in any way that differs from federal laws already on the books. In more than a decade, he seems to be more willing to compromise and/or talk his opposition to death. That might be the key to his upward trajectory that clearly isn't stopping with this cowtown.

And so . . .

As always, this list has been compiled according to scientific TKC polling and market research data and it's a weekly comprehensive guide to local powerful people, trends and our times.

  1. Glad to see Save the paseo win. Got a correction here. It's the petitioners who were most powerful. They deserve credit. Why focus on the politicians? They don't really do the hard work!

  6. Canady did her part, petitioners did their part and voters did the right thing.

    We SAVED THE PASEO!

And THAT is the strongest sign of a true Democracy in Kansas City this week.

  10. ^^I wonder that everyday then I look at things like what 11:41, 11:47, 11:54, 1st 11:56, 3:14 and 6:02 all said which I think most was done by one person and have to say to you, yes there is some but very limited.

  11. ^^^^^ What a waste of time.

  12. I do believe that credit to Canady is due but its an over credit here. She was the only sitting councilperson to call bullshit on the underlying failed process but was not the loudest champion for the cause, ultimately supporters of the Paseo voted for Quinton Lucas and or sasquatch (cant call the other womans name.) Save the Paseo did all of the work, not Canady. Did she contribute minimally... yes.
