An important flashback . . .
"On Aug. 4, 2017, Kansas City residents passed an ordinance, brought to the city through an initiative petition, that prohibits city officials from moving forward with any streetcar extension without first gaining citywide voter approval. That included any planning or preparation for construction."
Because elections and Democracy are a bad joke in Kansas City, this week the City Council moved forward despite a citywide vote:

KCMO council advances agreement for streetcar extension
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas City, Missouri, City Council approved a project management agreement Thursday with the Kansas City Streetcar Authority and Kansas City Area Transportation Authority. The extension from Union Station 3.6 miles south down Main Street will include 16 stops offering access to some of the city's most popular areas, including Westport and the Country Club Plaza.
the voters should have known when they went to the polls this past election that if any of the streetcar supporters made it into office this crap would take place.
ReplyDeleteCity Hall only listens to those who grease their palms not the voters.
How long could Q's wet dream of free bus service be funded for by giving up on the dumb train ?
ReplyDeleteHow long could Q's wet dream of free bus service be funded by giving up on the dumb train ?
ReplyDeleteWhen this gets built do you know that the combined 5.8 miles of toy train will have cost over $400,000,000.
ReplyDeleteThat’s $69,000,000 dollars per mile people, nowhere on the face of the earth does it cost anyone else that much money to build a track.and we voted this crap down too. how many roads, bridges, water lines and sewers could’ve been fixed with that money? We still have hundreds of potholes left over from last year that they supposedly can’t fix because they don’t have the money. People have been dealing with broken water lines in the streets for over a year and they don’t have money to fix them. Property taxes are going through the roof too. Worst schools and murder rates in the country and toy train has priority over everything else.
God damn you people are stupid for not standing up to these lyin, cheatin, crooked bastards.
Streetcar sucks.
ReplyDeleteestimated at $351.7 million
ReplyDeleteWell they said it was going to be around $210 million what happened to that
Surely there is some retribution for a local government violating the will of the people/voters; in my short time in KC I have witnessed this occur at least twice. Where are the Responsible Government folks, never seem to be around when stuff like this happens. Where is the State or Feds? surely when a vote is overturned there are laws broken! If this is the way it works then there is really no reason to ever vote!
ReplyDeleteCould purchase 351 state of the art electric buses to put into full time service in KCMO for $351.7 million
ReplyDelete"Now we start engineering, and hopefully the administration will name the project for a grant since it has met all requirements." David Johnson
ReplyDeleteMet all requirements except for common sense and fiscal responsibility.
^^^ and a minor one called "legality"!
ReplyDeleteCan't someone take this to court?
ReplyDeleteGood news is this is contingent on federal funding, which will never ever happen. The Streetcar Authority are trying to keep their jobs so they can't admit that expansion is not happening so they have to put out all this stupid pep rally stuff like it actually will. It's sort of like the people working on the committee to bring the world cup here. It ain't happening and never was but they have to act like it will to keep their jobs
