KANSAS CITY MAYOR QUINTON LUCAS PLEADS FOR HELP CLEANING UP MLK MESS HE CREATED ON THE PASEO!!!

Here's the attempt to move forward amid a litany of hard feelings that extend all the way to the nation's capita . . .

MAYOR Q NOW DESPERATELY SEEKING KANSAS CITY MLK TRIBUTE IDEAS!!!

This illusion of local democracy follows the Councilman Quinton Lucas ordinance that was pushed through and evoked the firestorm and divisiveness that currently ensnares this issue of local civil rights dedication -- Something that should be easy for even the most backward burg.

Here's the ask from the mayor and the ensuing redirect that has already tricked a few of our more clueless, progressive friends & neighbors . . .

This afternoon, I announced the next steps in the City’s efforts to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. – which will begin with a 90-day public comment period.

While many people of good heart believed renaming The Paseo Boulevard was a fitting honor, many others of good heart felt that other approaches were more appropriate. What we heard more clearly from the election, however, was that most voters were frustrated by the process used to craft the original name change.

We must now move forward together. I have been heartened by the hundreds of ideas I have received from community members since the election regarding how we can best honor the life and legacy of Dr. King. To ensure everyone’s voice can be heard, I have directed our Parks Board to provide our community a way to submit suggestions on how we can best honor Dr. King in Kansas City.

Please submit your ideas by email to MLKTribute@kcmo.org, or by mail to:

Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners
c/o MLK Tribute
4600 E 63rd Street
Kansas City, Mo. 64130

Following this initial 90-day public comment period, the Parks and Recreation Board of Commissioners will conduct a series of public meetings – engaging residents, community organizations and neighborhood leaders – to evaluate these comments and ideas.

  1. At least he's back on the right track, that's the important thing.

    1. ^^^ Yes, he's really going to pick the winning idea out of the mail. This is just a stunt to buy more time and make the issue go away.

  2. 7:53 we can only hope so, the whole idea of “having” to name something for mlk is ridiculous at this late stage of the game, it doesn’t hold the same meaning today as it did fifty years ago. If he was so important to the people of Kansas City then how come 90% of the city didn’t know we already had a school named after him and a park that’s been named after him for over forty years now? A school and a park hasn’t been beneficial to anybody let alone a street....... no help to anybody but a certain congressman and his fat fake rev friends. Bragging rights is exactly what this sounds like.

  3. Already have a park named after Dr King why does there need to be anything else?

  5. This is just the most recent mess that Lucas has to try to keep up.
And, the way things are going, there will be many many more.
As long as there's no leadership and instead Lucas and the gang constantly allow themselves to be jerked around by one group or another, and the resulting "projects" turn out to be nothing more than self-serving jokes at the public's expense, the taxpaying public will work to have those decisions reversed.
Especially if the elected totally ignore their own rules, as was the case of the MLK debacle.
Lead or clean up other people's messes.
    Sad.

  6. Lucas is an idiot. Record level homicides, shitty schools, awful roads, weak Police department, no city jail and plenty of other problems but this is a pressing issue.

  7. Rename the Paseo bridge for MLK

  8. One bad idea after then next in KC.

    Why not leave it be?

The result is only going to be more fighting and more people angry with one another. I absolutely agree with Super Dave. We already have parks and schools dedicated to MLK. Let's work with what we've got and not spend more precious resources on this subject where we'll never agree.

  9. Clean up and improve the park already named for MLK. He referenced children a lot in his speeches, and what kid wouldn’t be more excited by a nice park than a street sign?

  10. I was going to comment on this, but i have to go take a Schiff.

  11. Got this nice park. Fix it up so they can shoot at each other in a better setting. Include bushes for Q and Sly to duck behind.

  12. 127 murders in KC this year and we're worried about a leader who has been dead 60 years?

KC needs to refocus priorities on the here and now, not the past.

    2. Doomed to repeat it? Sounds kind of enjoyable, not doom.

  13. Quinton fails to understand that many people do not consider MLK worthy of further acknowledgement. A lot of people rightfully have no desire to honor a plagiarist and serial philanderer, in other words, a complete phony.

    1. Byron, you stupid government mooch. Just because the large majority of citizens don’t want to name a boulevard after MLK, who did some good things but did have some really big flaws, does not mean they are Trump supporters. Stop pigeon holing people. The City has a park named after MLK and instead of paying extortion of tens of thousands of dollars to MLK’s family for naming rights, we can take that money and fix up the park. Does your podunk town honor MLK? If not, get on that project and butt out of KC business, you ignorant parasite.

  15. I don’t think MLK is worthy of honor and I am not a Trump supporter. I think the faggot from South Bend, Indiana is the best overall candidate.

  17. I've not a Democrat.

But I think Trump should be impeached!

  18. This subject is not about Trump or faggots from Indiana. It is about Quinton trying to please the fat, fake revs.

  19. I think everyone is experiencing MLK Jr. FATigue.
KC has funded countless black projects with little success.
KC has further placated the Black Community for years electing liberal black city officials that have not improved the "black experience", in fact it's worse.

    This social experiment has failed!
Funding for non-essential feel good projects must yield to more important matters of infrastructure and basic services, etc.. FOCUS KANSAS CITY FOCUS.

  20. Fix up that f__king park that no one uses and be done with this shit. MLK caused more divisions in KC dead than he did alive.

  21. Rename cleaver Blvd

  22. Fuck MLK, he did nothing for KC and even less for the world in general.

  23. Byron where is the street in your town that's named after KINg?

Before I offer any suggestions to get this thing settled, please recall that the initiative was a STUPID IDEA from the beginning. When the Parks Board initially declined to pursue the renaming effort, that should have been the end of it.

So why wasn't it? Well Mr. Mayor, take a look into the nearest mirror and you'll find the answer. A Council member who was running for Mayor and eager to pander to special-interest groups. You Quinton, failed to do the right thing, and sought to intervene in the proper established procedure for naming/renaming streets.

    Here is my top suggestion:
    1) All those who pushed the renaming of The Paseo to MLK, should legally change their own names to "Martin Luther King, Jr."
KCMO would be recognized as having a Mayor named MLK Jr., and the man formerly known as Rev. Vernon Howard would henceworth be known as Rev. MLK Jr.
KCMO Council member Kathryn "Katie" Shields would be known as Marti Luther King, Jr.
I really like this idea, but I fear those named above don't have the guts to put their words into action.
