Church Sues Lenexa For Denying Its Request To Operate A Homeless Shelter
A Lenexa church is suing the city for denying its request to use its building as a temporary homeless shelter. Shawnee Mission Unitarian Universalist Church says the denial infringes on its exercise of religion, violating the Constitution, state law and federal law.

ReplyDeleteIf the area is not zoned for a homeless shelter type use, the city will probably prevail because the laws are generally applicable and not targeted to this specific church.
ReplyDeleteIf a religion had a practice of burning its garbage on the front lawn of its place of worship - as an offering to its "god(s)", a city order to desist would likewise be permissible.
