Posting this market round-up not to gloat but simply to note that the newspaper company can't go on like this and drastic change is coming sooner than our print-media pals are telling readers.
To wit . . .
AFTER TRADING TODAY NEWSPAPER GIANT McCLATCHY IS NOTHING MORE THAN A TWO-BIT STOCK WITH LITTLE HOPE OF ANY SIGNIFICANT REBOUND!!!
As always, we advise NEVER to take economic advice from bloggers . . . Nevertheless, here's a glimpse at the numbers that local media is politely ignoring.
The McClatchy Company (MNI): 0.4870 -0.9130 (-65.21%) at close.
Bezinga: McClatchy MNI shares were down more than -65% over the session, having began the day with a 52-week low.
THAT'S RIGHT, THE KANSAS CITY STAR PARENT COMPANY IS NOW PRICED AT LESS THAN 50 CENTS!!!
De-listing is now a very real possibility but hedge fund break-up and acquisition in the very near future is more likely.
Developing . . .
Looks like a great time to buy, subscribe and consume!
ReplyDelete^^^ Dumb-ass. Those are real people with real jobs. Not all of them are editorial writers. Most of the workers are support staff and simply people who work at the building. Their pensions are now at risk and there's not much similar work out there for them to get.
DeleteWill they learn to code?
DeleteNo they will continue what they do best. Gossip on FB,Instagram, blah, blah blah. It's in there Gene's. The reason they all gravitated to the job in the 1st place.
DeleteSounds like you're gloating.
DeleteTHAT'S RIGHT
ReplyDeleteKarma's a biatch, uber libs!
Sympathy for anyone who loses a job, but they should have seen this coming, no sympathy for the communist star,
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeletethe people have spoken ..nobody wants to read that leftist Democrat propaganda rag.
It's not the best business model to alienate about half of your potential subscribers so about half of the population will like you.
ReplyDelete^^^ +100
ReplyDeleteThe Star essentially gave me a 3-month trial subscription last August, but the service was so bad and the paper so biased that I had to cancel before the trial ended.
ReplyDeleteSad sad sad.
ReplyDeleteIt’s so sad because they hired all the brainiacs in the editorial staff.
The brainiacs were compelling reasons elderly old senior citizens want to subscribe.
And heavens to Betsy- brainiacs know the young millennials want opinion people to opinionate on issues... this should have been money in the bank! And history knows the more liberal a paper is the more subscribers!
And who knew young people would “paper shame” their neighbors for having a paper in their driveway... it’s not part of the green new deal.
And AOC and Pelosi won’t help?
For gosh sakes.
Hopefully Trump will donate millions and help them out so they can bash him.
Crocodile tears....
Maybe Mayor Q can order a local taxpayer bailout of this beloved institution.
ReplyDeleteOne of those recognizing an emergency ordinances.
ReplyDeleteI bailed on the Star maybe 10 years ago...back in the Lewie Dikweed days..and they've only gotten worse..
haven't missed them a bit --Good Riddance
I still read and subscribe because I care about MY community. Too bad you losers don't.
ReplyDeleteIt's all on tony kc. And comments that are worth reading.
DeleteNot a good thing. A metro area without a newspaper isn't a metro area. Kansas City has enough disadvantages. The local media is one factor of interest for both future employers and the employees of the employers.
ReplyDeleteWe really haven’t had a newspaper for quite a while now.
DeleteThere will be many media companies having problems. They are going to far to the left in moderate and conservative states. And not that many Liberals will take the paper. The Independent and Conservatives, read it to keep a eye on the Liberals. There are many Independent news sources That have the facts. And the President helped out with the decline. Mcclatchy had a few fake news stories out of the D.C. PAPER.AND DONALD KEEPS HARPING ON THE FAKE NEWS AND COUPLE TIMES A WEEK .
ReplyDelete^^^^ Good call.
ReplyDeletewhat did they cover today? Didn't really seem to matter. KC is not the newspaper. We will survive and do quite well, thank you.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteI care about MY community..and am glad to see the Demosleazeball rag like the Star, which slanders Kansas City by using the city's name in it's title..go broke!
but you loser subscribers pls keep throwing your money away!LOL!
As a publicly traded company, a couple of days ago, McClatchy was legally required to disclose that they anticipate a "liquidity crisis" (potential bankruptcy) in 2020.
ReplyDeleteSince then, in the last 3 days, their stock has cratered.
An analogy would be when a bank run occurs following a loss of confidence that the bank will remain solvent. When this happens, things can snowball very quickly and the end can come faster than most anticipated.
Some things to watch locally over the coming days:
1) Do advertisers pull their business with The Star, out of fear that they'll pay without receiving any service?
2) Will Star carriers abandon their routes out of fear that they won't be paid?
3) Will Star employees abandon the ship after finally realizing that McClatchy corporate intends to string them along and then reneg on their pensions?
I can't recall reading an article in the star that wasn't biased and slanted as woke or antitrump... good riddance...can't believe ppl would rely on msm for news anymore.
ReplyDeletePerhaps mirror companies should send hundreds of mirrors to any managers from the past 20 years to present of The Star.
ReplyDeleteWhenever they wonder who is to blame they can gaze into a mirror for an answer.
And the editorial staff should get hundreds extra so they can try out multiple mirrors each day... that way they can assure themselves who is to blame in case they can’t guess the first few hundred times.
And blame Conservatives and Catholics for their demise... as they try to find another mirrors for an answer....
Really sad to hear of young people “newspaper shaming” their elderly neighbors for having rolled up dead trees in their driveway.
ReplyDeleteBlame AOC and the Green New Deal.
Roll down your window and yell at your neighbor for getting a paper...”Newspaper Shame” them!
6:54 wins. Simple.
ReplyDeleteYou have to wonder what Nicholas Sandman thinks of this.
ReplyDeleteIn all probability- he feels sad and wants them to succeed.
Every media that reprinted the garbage on Sandman:
1. Hates Catholics
2. Wanted Sandman to be wrong
3. Can’t believe a MAGA-wearing-hat-guy was in the right
4. Has Karma coming to them
5. Should pay Sandman before they go bankrupt
The Star needs to liquidate and donate all proceeds to:
1. Nicholas Sandman
2. The Catholic Church
3. Conservatives
4. The EIB NETWORK
5. The Young Republican Club
6. Anyone they have hurt from years of editorials
7. All the dead babies (they love abortion)
8. Traditional Families (they love everyone else)
9. NRA
10. Family of the Death Row inmate that one of their reporters Paula Barr married.
Just saying...
Pretty bad when an edition of the newspaper costs more than a share of its stock.
