COLD KANSAS CITY WINTER FACT CHECKS MOSTLY USELESS BIKE LANES!!!

The weather turns brutally cold tonight and locals are already starting to notice VERY FEW cyclists using pricey and often controversial Kansas City bike lanes.

Bike walk advocates contend: "For many in the Kansas City region, walking, rolling, or biking isn’t a seasonal activity– it’s just how they get around."

That's true but it's still important to note that BIKE/WALK KC REFUSES TO SHARE SPECIFIC DEETS REGARDING JUST HOW MANY CYCLISTS, EXACTLY, USE BIKE LANES. THIS OBFUSCATION THWARTS ANY INFORMATIVE CONVERSATION  ABOUT THE EXORBITANT COST OF BIKE LANES OR THEIR PRACTICALITY.

The cold, arctic chill fact check . . .

THIS KANSAS CITY WINTER RENDERS MOST BIKE LANES POINTLESS AS LOCALS SIMPLY FIND A SAFER, MORE EFFECTIVE MEANS OF TRAVEL!!!

Buses and ride shares remain a more effective solution.

Meanwhile, even light snowfall shows us that Armour Blvd bike lanes remains one of the most embarrassing mistakes for cycling advocates and their local Waterloo.

Nevertheless, we still believe the following info is important because we might not agree with these consultant activists on anything SAVE their concern about people on local streets during harsh weather . . . Checkit:

BikeWalkKC is partnering with Hope Faith Homeless Assistance Campus and several of our Business Members to collect new and gently used items for people who walk and bike through the winter. The Whatever the Weather Gear Drive will run Friday, November 8th – Friday, December 6th, and we invite you to participate.

How to help:

- Gather your gear: hats, gloves, winter socks, scarves, balaclavas, etc.

  1. If they need donations, they might just want to take it our of that 400 million they're asking for.

    1. ^^^^ Too cruel.

I'm sure you have some old jackets, sweaters and gloves that people could use! No, I hate bike lanes too but don't think people should be cold.

  2. Don't forget the coats for kids drive on KMBZ. Might not agree with their politics but I REALLY like the effort they put forward to keep students warm during the winter months. That's part of what makes KC such a great place.

  4. 11:27 don't be an idiot. KC is not a great place...hundreds of others are far better.

  5. Do they even make Thermal Spandex?

  6. We need to enclose and heat the bike lanes so the 1% can ride year round in confort.

  7. Wow people don't ride bikes in the cold, what an amazing insight.

Next up? TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! FEWER PEOPLE USE PARKS IN THE WINTER!!! SHOULD WE BUILD AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR DEADBEAT NEGROES THERE INSTEAD?!?!

  9. Not a problem in North Kansas City.
During daily driving in NKC in the month plus (fairly good weather)since the Bike Lanes were installed, I've seen the following...

2 bicyclists riding northbound in the street on Swift,
1 bicyclist riding northbound on the sidewalk on the west side of Swift,
1 bicyclist riding on the sidewalk (beside the Bike Lane) eastbound on Armour,
and ONE bicyclist riding for ONE block IN THE BIKE LANE, eastbound from Jasper to Knox, where she turned off, southbound on Knox.

Not a 24/7 sample I know, but a pretty good indication of he extent of the activity in NKC - plus the fact that there are always more automobiles than bicycles parked in front of the "Velogarage" during it business hours.

Snow plow drivers love the bike lanes! It gives them someplace to pile up the snow they have pushed out of the way of the 99.9999999998% of people actually trying to get somewhere important.

  11. Every year we get groups asking for donations of coats, backpacks, socks, shoes, etc for those in need. What the hell did those in need do with all the stuff we gave them last year?

    ReplyDelete
  12. GET RID of the BIKE LANES on ARMOUR BLVD!!!!!!! They are never used and it is dangerous for the neighborhood traffic!

    ReplyDelete
  13. @854, Well we had warm weather and they threw those coats away because the suckers that work for a living will always hand down their old ones. I suspect there will be a lot of Chief's coats donated this year as the public grows weary of the "wait until next year" crap.

  14. bike lanes make it more dangerous for bikers in snow. They can't use the bike lanes so they have to get into the cramped one lane since it's the only part that's plowed.

Someone should just dumb a bag of cement every block in the bike lanes

  15. Need a coat go to a thrift store, skip the fast food one day.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Bike riders do not contribute ANYTHING to the upkeep of the streets or even the bike lanes. So just based upon economics they should not exist.

    ReplyDelete
  17. It's not just economics it's about the political power they wield.
