Fox4: Alex Gordon becomes free agent after $23M option declined by Royals

Deets:

The Royals have declined their half of Alex Gordon’s $23 million mutual option for 2020, allowing the outfielder to become a free agent.

Gordon had exercised his part of the option but was allowed to go free Saturday. He will receive a $4 million buyout, completing a $72 million, four-year contract he agreed to in January 2016.

  1. I wonder if Alex has been living a $32 Million lifestyle on a $23 Million budget.

Or a $23 Million lifestyle on his attorney's word the option was pretty much guaranteed so spend and don't worry about it.

  2. I seriously doubt that Alex Gordon has lived beyond his means. He was a good not great player that helped the Royals win 2 Al Pennants and 1 world series championship.

I thank him for his play for the Royals and wish him the best of luck going forward.

  3. Umm, literally everyone, even the joco soccer moms, knew the last year of the Gordon deal wasn't going to be picked up. Try to keep up greaseball. At least pretend you know what you're talking about.

P.S. Gordon will be back next year, making at least 8 figures (including his buyout). Suck it haters.

  4. Alex Gordon - Lifetime .265 hitter received $72 million over 4 years. Please tell me why Jackson County taxpayers have to subsidize Royals and Chiefs Stadiums to the tune of $500 million if they have money like that to throw around? Taxpayer's money would be better spent filling potholes, beefing up the police force to reduce crimes, K-12 school maintenance etc.

Plus, Gordon had the personality of opossum anyway. Most unhappy looking multi-millionaire ever.

  5. I agree. Gordon never did anything wrong but he always looked miserable.
