A debate among Kansas City's far left political factions has turned serious and hospitalized a local activist.
Objectively, what we can tell is that this disagreement has been ongoing for about a year as local left wing groups confront a crisis of conscience. Some of the members believe their goals can be accomplished by peaceful means and others take a far more militant tone.
Accordingly . . .
HERE'S FIRST PERSON EYEWITNESS REPORTING AFTER A POLITICALLY CHARGED ATTACK AT A POPULAR KCMO PROGRESSIVE MEETUP SPOT!!!
We changed the names and edited just a bit in addition to clearing this posting with the victims of the attack:
"We went to a film screening of the Charlie Chaplin movie "the great dictator" for antifascist days of unity and GUY was attacked by a group of people in red masks who were angry at DSA (Democratic Socialists America) for endorsing Bernie and for telling a local leftist group to stop trying to undermine the local UAW strike effort. GUY had nothing to do with either of those things. ANOTHER GUY was attacked by 8 of them and got punched in the face 7 times. GUY got attacked by one who seemed to be bent on killing him. He has scalp staples, minor bruises, and pulled muscles. After taking a couple of swipes at him, one of them yelled at him "Haha we broke your glasses you arthritic old man". I got in between GUY and his attacker and got a cracked or bruised rib, minor bruises, pulled muscles. They launched this attack at SEIU, you know, the janitor's union hall where KC Tenants and everyone in KC meets and does everything. There was a DACA clinic going on at the time. At least one person left the clinic in tears and didn't get their paperwork done."

A disturbance occurred at the site where we held our DACA clinic today. Our DACAmented people are already living with uncertainty and fear, we strive to create safe spaces for them to get their DACA renewed and build community with us. Although our members are safe and they were not targeted, experiences like these can be traumatic. We are taking steps to take care of our people and continue to create those safer spaces. We will reach out to folks that were present to address their needs but feel free to privately reach out to us for any questions.

ReplyDeleteI have been an activist (a pro life right wing crazy, some friends claim) for many years. The most helpful thing to my cause was when Congress passed the anti-harassment regulations for abortion clinics. Protesting, blocking traffic, and interfering with their businesses accomplished nothing except to make the participants feel better, to raise money for a bunch of charity scammers, and to irritate everybody else. When the law was passed and signed, the movement had to find other means to get their point across, and we found much more effective ways to do it. The leftist or progressive activists who resort to violence and intimidation accomplish nothing for their movement.
