TODAY: KANSAS CITY GRASSROOTS ACTIVISTS FIGHT CITY HALL FOR THE RIGHT TO CARRY MORE WEED!!!

The KCPD Chief shot down Ordinance #190702 with impressive blog arguments and a worthwhile refeer madness reference last week and Mayor Quinton proposes making local marijuana laws even more confusing by removing weed enforcement from the KCMO muni-code.

Meanwhile, later today this is gonna happen . . .

KANSAS CITY STONERS FIGHT CITY HALL FOR MORE WEED!!!

It's a noble struggle that might spare some people legal trouble if they're so out of it that they get caught with weed . . . Moreover, we always hope that marijuana law reform activism is a gateway for more serious local political involvement.

To be fair, this GRASSROOTS effort is enthusiastic and should remind locals of the backroom deals and lack of transparency that cloud most legislative decisions.

Here's the notice:

NORML: Kansas City, MO: Marijuana Decriminalization Expansion Effort

Deets:

Currently, up to 35 grams of marijuana possession is decriminalized, subject to a civil fine of only $25. The proposed bill would increase that threshold to 100 grams, with no fine.

Join NORML KC on Wednesday, October 23rd before 9:30am on the 26th floor of City Hall to speak to the council in support of Councilman Brandon Ellington’s proposal to decriminalize up to 100 grams of cannabis in KCMO.

  1. Needs to happen at a federal or state level. Afraid that a lot of these laws could actually get people in worse trouble because they give them a false sense of security for doing something that is, in fact, illegal.

    1. They said they would be voting without public testimony on this. So if you go, bright a sign without a stick to let them know how you feel. Most of the council should know that their constituents have a right to disagree with the status quo on this.

  3. Make Missouri GREAT for once (Like Colorado) I dont smoke week because I cant with my job, but weed will get Missouri new roads without potholes one day, and new bridges, well unless politicians misapprpriate the weed money in Missouri like they do on everything else....nevermind.

  4. ^^^ Pro Weed here!!, I think it is key to curbing violent crime - If more people smoked the refer they would be reaching for a bag of chips and not a 9MM. Bags of chips (in excess) can kill to, but it takes years for the obesity from the junk to take a life, and the chip eater chooses to eat that crunchy bullet, unlike the murder victim who thought he or she would see their next birthday.

    1. Legal weed was fine until you get into the shatter and wax exotics.

  5. Most sane people think it is crazy to lock up anyone over pot. But -- until the insane people in DC and Jeff City actually decriminalize it, the best alternative is how to MINIMIZE the impact of this insanity on our citizens. We cannot change federal or state law by City ordinance.

Ellington's pot proposal is well-meaning but misguided, since it would cause more people caught with pot to be prosecuted in STATE court -- especially in Clay, Platte and Cass Counties, where parts of KCMO lay. It can and should be amended to address those issues.
