TKC SUNDAY SPECIAL!!! KANSAS CITY URBAN CORE FAITH LEADERS PRESS MAYOR QUINTON LUCAS: STAND WITH US AND HELP SAVE MLK BLVD!!!
In the Fall of 2018, then Councilman Quinton Lucas introduced an ordinance to change the name of The Paseo to MLK Blvd. The vote was delayed 5 times before a pre-mayoral-election push brought the issue to the forefront and it passed in a controversial 8-4 vote.
However, during the campaign and since he won the election Mayor Quinton Lucas has been mum on the topic of his MLK ordinance.
To wit . . .
OUTCRY FROM KANSAS CITY URBAN CORE FAITH LEADERS DEMANDS MORE SUPPORT FROM MAYOR QUINTON LUCAS TO HELP PROTECT MLK BLVD AMID THE UPCOMING NOV. 5TH 'SAVE THE PASEO' VOTE!!!
Here's the word and the off-record confession in a message sent back to TKC:
"The Mayor needs to do more . . . We have confidence Kansas City will do the right thing and uphold the will of our community but there's always a danger of undue and undemocratic influence in these low-turnout votes. In the same way Quinton Lucas was brave enough to bring this issue to the forefront, now we patiently wait for him to stand together with us and proclaim to all of Kansas City that the East side wants to keep our MLK Blvd intact and move forward past the divisive objections of a small but vocal group who would deny us our right of self-determination."
Accordingly . . .
FIRST ON TKC: MANY REVS IMPLORE MAYOR QUINTON LUCAS TO SERVE AS THE SAVIOR AGAINST A VOTE TO DESTROY KANSAS CITY MLK BLVD!!!
A few questions amid a moment of doubt . . .
- Will Mayor Q answer the call?
- Is the Mayor popular enough to deliver MLK Blvd the "Save The Paseo" movement if he finally gets involved???
- Why is our TKC blog community the FIRST to remind Nov. 5th voters that the "Save The Paseo" vote is push back against Mayor Q's MLK ordinance as local MSM lets him off the hook for legislation that inspired this election drama???
You decide . . .
if Quinton Lucas gets involved, he'll lose. He has been silent because he's smart. He knows that the privacy of the voting booth will allow most voters to make the right decision.
ReplyDeleteMayor Q is a smart man. He doesn't need or want to stand with the Revs.
Delete^^^^ Kind of agree but if Mayor Lucas was really smart he would reverse course and help to Save The Paseo!
DeleteThis ain't going to be pretty. This vote could set KC back 40 years and it's because the new mayor didn't want to listen to all of the community discussion about the issue and how best to honor Dr. King.
ReplyDeleteCan't say I blame him.
DeleteBwhahahahahahahahaha!
Community meetings are usually a waste of time and the worst way of getting something accomplished. Can't blame the mayor for taking action instead of waiting around for people to try and make up their mind. Win or lose, it was right for Q to move on this thing and get it settled once and for all.
There will be consequences for not following the rules...if the mayor is smart, he'll keep his powder dry for another cause.

ReplyDeleteI need a sign to let me know you're here
All of these lines are being crossed over the streetosphere
I need to know that things are gonna look up
'Cause I feel us drowning in a sea spilled from a name change cup
When there is no place safe and no safe place to put my head
When you feel the world shake from the words that are said
And I'm calling all angels
And I'm calling all you angels
And I won't give up if you don't give up
I won't give up if you don't give up
I won't give up if you don't give up
I won't give up if you don't give up
I need a sign to let me know you're here
'Cause my TV news just keeps it all from being clear
I want a reason for the way things have to be
I need a hand to help build up some kind of hope inside of me
And I'm calling all angels
And I'm calling all you angels
When children have to play inside so they don't disappear
While private eyes solve DUI lies 'cause we don't talk for fears
And football teams are kneeling Queens and losing sight of Superbowl dreams
In a world that what we want is only what we want until it's ours
And I'm calling all angels
And I'm calling all you angels!!!
And there’s also a law that the fat fake revs can’t get involved in political matters or they can get their tax exempt status revoked, of course no one at city hall has the balls to take it away from them because they buy all their votes from the fat fake revs preaching politics from the pulpit.
ReplyDeleteCity Hall doesn’t revoke tax-exempt status. That’s a federal issue. But you raise a good point. If people paid attention to this, dirtbags like “Rev.” Modest Miles and his ilk would be out of business.
Delete"uphold the will of our community "; Changing the name of the Paseo was never the will of the people as it was rammed through with no input from the people.
ReplyDeleteNow the vocal fake fat revs are crying for Quinton to beat back the "divisive objections of a small but vocal group who would deny us our right of self-determination." With no input from the people KCMO government denied the people their right of self- determination.
Apparently it is acceptable for the fake fat revs to be vocal but not the people.
Hopefully the will of the people will come through and the name change will be back to the Paseo.
So, a city that's 30% black can't have a street named after Dr. King?
ReplyDeleteThats GD right Byron!
ReplyDeleteWe should name the sewage treatment plant after Byron Funkhouser. Or maybe a retard school.
ReplyDeleteCan't Tweety Bird Q get Hillary and Barry to visit and rally with him for the clergy fighting the Save the Paseo outfit?
ReplyDeleteDamn history can be a bitch! Does anybody remember the Main Street coalition? The urban group that went around to the white churches to make sure they weren't preaching anything to do with politics. And now the urban reverence are involved in politics tisk tisk tisk very illegal. Maybe they should worry about the safety of their congregation in regards to their own kind killing and robbing them. why are these men of God so obsessed with something that will do nothing!! To help their community. It'd be best to take the money that is going to be spent for signs and just give it away to the constituents. They will do more with that money than the signs will.
ReplyDeletebLIEron, you don’t live here so shut the hell up, this doesn’t concern you besides, there’s at least twenty honorary streets named after kolored folk in killa shitty. And we don’t have to pay the families of those idiots either.
ReplyDeleteYou know, Tony, I'm convinced now you make up a lot of this blog out of whole cloth, because your "insider" quotes all sound the same - and nobody talks that way or writes that way.
ReplyDeleteSo that's that, pretty much.
Save the Paseo! Respect Kansas City history.
ReplyDeleteLet the Reverends pay the King family.
ReplyDeleteThey’ll just use tax dollars they conned the City out of so it essentially all comes from the same place in the end.
DeleteDo the right thing: Save the Paseo!
"Faith leaders"/
ReplyDeleteGive me a break!
Thou shalt not intimidate, threaten, nor shake down!
Another test for gutless Lucas that he will no doubt fail.
It's open season at city hall for every little "victimized" special interest group to roll the latest group of KCMO electeds.
Come on down to 12th and Oak and just say "BOO"!
It's that time of year.
For regular KCMO residents who would just like to have some of the same basic services that residents of the other 114 municipalities in the metro enjoy every day, the Lucas show is going to be a very very long four years.
^^^^^^^^ Amen
ReplyDeleteKansas City will vote to keep the name. MLK will stand. Hate will not win!
ReplyDeleteMany
ReplyDeleteLame
Killings
ReplyDeleteProtect MLK There is no protecting MLK this was done under the table and dirty. Sounds like the so called faith leaders are racist imagine that. This was a dirty deal and irresponsible spending. Don't let them do this KC this was your tax dollar that is spent annually to the King family and you didn't even vote on it.
Vote to keep The Paseo. Make them change it back and stop robbing the tax payer.
Remember to VOTE YES to put the Paseo back where it belongs.
ReplyDeleteIf Quinton stands with the Revs he will NEVER, NEVER get a second term. So I expect him to stay silent.
ReplyDelete^^^^ Amen.
ReplyDeleteI hope the Reverends are correct, there are a lot of people who want KC to have an MLK Blvd and we should replace the signs already established. The Save The Paseo need to get over the past.
ReplyDeleteOh, Chimpy, you're so hypocritical. You simps are the goofs who need to get over the past. Trashing war monuments and demanding removal of old statues is just stupid monkey business.
DeleteSAVE THE PASEO!
ReplyDeleteKC has spent two years fighting about a street. That explains a lot about the dysfunction of our city.
ReplyDeleteThe vote will be an easy win for the "revs" there won't be a very big turnout and the most dedicated people who always vote will win the election. From what I've seen, most of the people who support Save The Paseo don't even live in KC. One of the main organizer is a teacher out in Lee's Summit.
ReplyDelete^^At least comments like this show you what's really behind the opposition.
ReplyDeleteFILTHY STINKING RACISTS
Oh, Funkymunky dummy, you're a fine one to be calling others racists. You said you could only believe an ALL black jury's verdict in a white female plaintiff's lawsuit. So, that makes you a FILTHY STINKING HYPOCRITE, and a FILTHY STINKING RACIST!
DeleteByron, shut up, you government handout-milking, work-dodging, benefit-sucking, disability-faking charlatan. You’re taking up bandwidth a working, contributing member of society could be using. And you don’t live here!! NO ONE WANTS YO HEAR FROM YOU!
DeleteWe need to honor our latino community with the paseo
