TKC OPEN THREAD: KANSAS CITY CHIEFS SHOWDOWN WITHOUT PATRICK MAHOMES

We round up game night news items and take a glimpse at the challenges confronting the Chiefs as they struggle to hold the interest of fans without the help of their star . . . Checkit:

Football Life Wasted

Chiefs fans tailgate before dawn

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Fifteen hours before gametime, Chiefs fans started lining up outside the Arrowhead Stadium gates, which didn't open until 2:30 p.m. Sunday. "We're all family here," Chiefs fan Johnathan Crocker said. "That's all it is. We're just family." It's a family found by the love for the Chiefs.

Winning Ways Outline

Keys to a Chiefs victory over Packers

The Kansas City Chiefs are in an awkward position as they host the Green Bay Packers in Week 8. They enter this game with a solid 5-2 record, yet it still somehow seems disappointing. They are also at the center of controversy as to how to handle starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes' right knee and left ankle injuries.

Game Plan Revealed

Green Bay Packers Vs. Kansas City Chiefs: Who Has The Edge?

The Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs have met just 11 times in the regular season. The Packers are just 3-7-1 in those games for a .318 winning percentage. That marks Green Bay's worst winning percentage against any of the NFL's 31 other teams. The two teams meet Sunday at 7:20 p.m., CST, at Arrowhead Stadium where the Packers are a 4.5-point favorite.

Miracle Man?!?!

Patrick Mahomes' speedy recovery from knee injury may be thanks to exceptional anatomy

Patrick Mahomes' arm is exceptional. NFL fans have heard all about his throwing velocity and the bizarre angles at which he can release the football, thanks to the flexibility of his arm. But apparently, his knee is another example of his exceptional anatomy.

Sunday Reality Check

Patrick Mahomes is exceptional player, healer; Chiefs QB is still human

There is no question that Patrick Mahomes is an amazing athlete. He might even border on superhuman. The Chiefs quarterback, voted as the NFL's MVP in 2018, his first year as a starter, can use his feet to create plays and has the arm strength to make throws most other quarterbacks can only dream of.

And so . . .

The games continue with just a bit more skepticism from bigger newsies outside of the Kansas City bubble . . .
