TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! INSIDER: COSTLY UPCOMING JACKSON COUNTY PROPERTY TAX BILLS WILL INCITE VOTER OUTRAGE & TRANSFORM KANSAS CITY POLITICS!!!

In just a few short weeks Jackson County homeowners confront the single-largest tax increase Kansas City residents have ever witnessed in modern history.

It's too late to stop it.

For some, appeals might be able the limit the damage but what we've seen so far is a dysfunctional process THAT DID NOT FOLLOW THE RULES, increased assessments without mandated physical inspections and a process carried out covertly by incompetent, political crony bureaucrats.

The hope of payback from the County won't be enough to keep low income residents in their homes.

A fire sale of distressed property from people who can no longer afford to occupy their residences now awaits the KCMO area in the very near future.

And so one of the TOP ECHELON INSIDER TKC READER offers a dire and two-fold prediction:

THE JACKSON COUNTY PROPERTY TAX INCREASES WILL ENRAGE VOTERS MORE THAN ANY OTHER LOCAL ISSUE CONFRONTING KANSAS CITY!!!

Immediate impact:

"People are soon to learn they'll have to move in the next year or so. These are older people on fixed incomes and lower income residents who don't have any other options. You're talking about massive displacement. Even people who aren't immediately effected will witness the drastic effect that County government can have on their lives. When the bills finally start to hit, we're looking at voter push back so severe that we'll never be able to pass a tax increase in KC for the next 10 years."

The bigger picture:

THE JACKSON COUNTY PROPERTY TAX SPIKES PAVES THE WAY FOR WORSENING KANSAS CITY GENTRIFICATION!!!

In the end, expediency is all that matters:

"There's a tragic bright side here . . . Poor people getting kicked out of their homes will add a boost to the lackluster housing market given that sales this year disappointed. There will be more bargains, more opportunities for flippers and another chance for people with higher incomes to find "affordable" housing in KCMO at the expense of low income residents pushed out."

Accordingly . . .

Winter is coming in Kansas City. This cruel displacement by way of politically charged economic warfare betrays the "affordable" housing hopes of so many voters who were optimistic about new faces at 12th and Oak and will now, likely, become enraged amid broken, empty promises and budget busting bills.

  1. Indeed.

But I wonder about the second point. Why would new homeowners want to buy in KC when they have just witnessed the horrific abuse of the county and how they have stolen homes from hundreds, if not thousands of residents?

Don't get me wrong, KC is a great place to pay high rent for awhile and then move to the suburbs. That's the way it's usually done.

    1. Biggest tax increase in KC history.

      Thanks Frank!

    2. ^^^^ Not just Frank's fault. The resolution the county passed this week isn't worth toilet paper. Nonbinding and useless.

      Delete
    3. No 9:57 it is Frank's fault. He owns this. The reason the resolution was worthless is that all the power in Jackson County lies with the executive. Frank wants the power and the fat check that comes with being executive. He dodges the responsibility.

  2. Where's Mayor Quinton Lucas?

He has been completely silent during this whole debacle and "affordable housing" was his big issue. KC adjusted to get their cut and the newspaper is too weak to even dare to call him on it. In fact, they're fibbing and saying the KC is adjusting their levy to help: Pure political spin and deception from the 26th floor.

  4. ^^^ Thank Freedom, Inc and Jackson County Democrats.

  5. I find sloppy government far more objectionable... this is incompetence.

  6. These people can march and protest and tweet and be outraged all they want, but at the end of the day, the same kinds of people, and in fact, many of the very SAME people, will be elected and re-elected to public office in Jackson County and KCMO.
The little insider band of incompetent grifters who drift from one taxpayer-funded job to the next, the current JaCo "assessor" is Exhibit A, looking out for themselves, their friends, and campaign contributors, while the city and county go down the tubes.
And the basic services of residents and small businesses are ignored while they're the very people who pick up the tab.
In political terms, the next elections are far in the future.
And the short attention spans of the low-information rah rah local voters will be focused on THE NEXT BIG THING by then.
    It never changes.

  7. I agree. Who's going to want to move into KC? With taxes now on par with JoCo, there's literally no reason not to cross over to the missouri side, where you tax money gets you terrible roads, crime, insanely high water bills, etc. This city is doing nothing to encourage people to move to it

  8. You fools voted for the Democommies. This is what they do. You made your beds. Now lie in them.

Perhaps, Kixit will mean getting the hell outta Killa Shitty, or, at least spending their money elsewhere (as much as possible), and petitioning for FIRING FECKLESS FRANK!

  11. I’d suggest giving consideration to KCMO starting a political movement to do what St. Louis did in the late 1800’s: separate from the county and become an “independent city”.

Sever all political ties, “secede” from Jackson County (as well as Platte, Clay and Cass), and become an independent city- and among other things quit paying Jackson County’s high taxes.
For those of you who live in KCMO south of the River, You are paying the property taxes to Jackson County, but what are you getting back from it?

The purpose of “Counties“ is to provide a “local government“ for people who live out in the country (outside town).
If you live in an incorporated municipality like KCMO, You’re paying taxes to the county government, but you will almost never get any county services back from it. Example: if you live in the city limits and you call 911, you were going to get the local municipal police or fire. You’re not going to get the county sheriff or EMS. You’re also paying for a rural PWSD yet you get your water from the City. You’re paying for the County’s maintained roads that you’ll probably almost never use.

On the other hand, people who live outside of town only pay taxes to the county for their emergency services, road maintenance and utilities were applicable. They are not paying property taxes to you in the city.

    Just something to consider.

  12. These are the progressive democrats that think Trump is the problem. Think again it is the democrats that are doing this in Jackson County and not one democrat in democrat controlled Kansas City Council is doing or saying anything. Vote democrat in 2020 think what the federal and state governments will be like.

  13. Even people who aren't immediately effected know the difference between affected and effected.

  14. It’s funny that idiot Gail said that for the most part the tax increases were spot on. She knew the legal allowable limit was 15% and she used that on the majority of the people but the others, they clearly got screwed by this law breaking winch.

She didn’t need to hammer anybody out of this mess but she did, because she’s stupid.

Clearly an honest and respectable assessor would have eased everybody into raising their taxes, but not this moron.

  15. Maybe the idiots who vote democrat will finally see what you get when you vote democrat.

  16. NO @11:19 - as a KCMO resident in Clay County, I WILL NOT support the City becoming "independent" UNTIL THE KCMOPSD is Dissolved!

There is no way in HELL that we will stand for giving up decent schools to enter the corrupt failure that the KCMOPSD is!

And don't try to argue that the two are separate entities, the last Mayor's pathetic attempt to tax all of KCMO in order to provide the KCMOPSD with even more money to waste on "pre-K"!

  17. So what we can learn from this episode is that taxes are great as long as they are levied against someone else. It's really very Republican of those Jackson County voters.

  18. I thought all the casinos were going to lower property tax. What happened?

  20. KC citizens bitch about taxes like their property taxes going up yet they approve damn near every tax hike City Hall puts on the ballot. Weird

Here's an idea: If you don't like paying high taxes and such, stop approving all these tax hikes our corrupt politicians put on the ballot. I get that the property tax deal wasn't something that could be decided by a vote. But the tax problem in this town...some of the blame has to fall on voters as they allow people like former Mayor S'lie James to rape them through taxes.

Also, curious if the property tax hike includes upping the assessments on places like the Plaza? Doubtful.
