SHAME!!! NORTH KANSAS CITY HATES TRAFFIC HOT MESS BUT BIKE/WALK KC DEMANDS CONTROL OF ARMOUR ROAD!!!

In Midtown, Bike/Walk KC earned stern rebuke from residents because their handiwork created dangerous blind spots and turned a beautiful boulevard into an ugly maze.

Now . . .

NKC RESIDENTS DEMAND THE REMOVAL OF BIKE LANE OBSTACLES ON ARMOUR ROAD BUT MIDTOWN ACTIVISTS RALLY TO SILENCE COMPLAINTS FROM THE COMMUNITY!!!

In fairness, here's how the cycling advocates explain their position . . .

BikeKC: Why do we care about Armour Road in North Kansas City?

Deets:

As the region’s only metro-wide pedestrian/bicycle advocacy organization, BikeWalkKC works in city halls across the five-county region to speak up for improvements to the built environment for all who live, work, and visit our cities. North Kansas City is one such city that we believe has been a leader in planning and implementing projects that make it more liveable, safe, inviting, and prosperous.

Proposed plans to remove recent “complete street” improvements to Armour Road (less than one month after the improvements were completed) have compelled us to mobilize our Complete KC coalition, members, and advocates to add our voices to those of North Kansas City residents, business owners, and others who support leaving the improvements in place for further study, refinement, and benefits.

Accordingly we ask our blog community . . .

SHOULD NKC LISTEN TO BIKE/WALK ACTIVISTS OR COMPLAINTS FROM PEOPLE WHO LIVE AND WORK ALONG YET ANOTHER STREET THAT'S REJECTING THIS TRAFFIC TROUBLE?!?

You decide . . .

    1. ^^^^ that's a little clunky but I see your point.

They're entitled to their opinion but this looks like the same thing that happened on Armour Blvd in KCMO.

Face it, people don't like the bike lanes putting senior citizens out in the middle of the street to dodge cars is a bad idea. Bad planning from these folks. Hopefully there is a compromise to fix what's wrong about this.

    2. Many scams in KC. Bike lanes are the one of the biggest ripoffs considering how few people use them.

  3. ^^^Good luck with that.

  4. As long as voters elect people to public office who don't have the guts to tell clowns like this to go take a hike, residents of those communities will have to continue to suffer.
    Ridiculous small-time special-interest crap.
And NONE of their recommendations have anything to do with anyone but them.
    Please go away!

  9. No, Bike KC should have its funding cut off!
See how effective the Organization is if only its 250 members have to support it instead of it sucking away at the Tax Teat!

BikeWalkKC is just another scam organization siphoning money from the public trough. Sadly they have their man Eric 'Spandex' Bunch on the city council. KCMO cannot even fix the failed streets let alone anything else. The rest of the council should reject this scam organization's attempt to get some of the of GO Bond money. The bike lanes are being treated the same as the original failed fair weather toy train "no" vote. The council is ignoring the voice of the people.

  11. I challenge BikeKC to divulge the number of its members who actually live in NKC, and the number of NKC Businesses other than the Velo Garage (if any) who have expressed support for the changes the City Council imposed without an opinion poll of or a vote by its residents.

Seven people and one business hardly constitute "support", and the pitiful number of people who signed the Velo Garage's "petition" did not have to disclose their residences, so are we to assume they constitute the "others" mentioned in Bike KC's statement?

  13. I spend an hour every day exercising at the NKC YMCA.
My daily visits vary from 9:00am to 3:00pm.
During the entire time since they were installed, I have seen a total of TWO bicyclists using these "bike lanes", and a total of SIX people riding bicycles in NKC. The "rent a bike" rack in front of the "Y" is consistently unused.

NKC is also courting lawsuits by both the ADA (inaccessible Bus Stops on islands separated from the sidewalks by bike lanes) and the TSB ("Rainbow" pedestrian Crossing markings in place of the prescribes standard markings) that should reinforce the need to eliminate these poorly planned and executed fiascos.

  15. Nkc is its own city apart from kc. The advocates are out of towners trying to influence it. This should raise red flags for all nkcs residents and officials. Ignore anyone not a resident of nkc

Remember the fool who redesigned the main street in downtown KCK to resemble a road rally course with twists and turns? It helped ruin the downtown for decades.

  19. So the word is out about the arrogant decitful culture of Bike/#Walk KC and the poor leadership of 'the Erics', but don't forget the biased KCMO City planners that have enabled the bike boys to impose their plans regardless of public feedback. It's a cult that needs to be defunded!

  20. Very, very dangerous!!!!!!!!!

Someone is going to have their door torn off and get killed, stepping out of their car into traffic (Probably across from the Post Office).

Then the city (and NKC taxpayers) will get sued (and lose) to high heaven.

Dumbest (WOKE) thing I've seen in many years.

  21. the bike walk kc scorched earth strategy isn't to the benefit of the organization or the noted municipalities. The highlighted elected officials need to stop thinking they work elsewhere...

  26. Every City hates bike lanes, especially because they go largely unused. Kansas City MO definitely hates bike lanes. I really dont see the point.
