E-mails show confusion in JaxCo property assessment process

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A representative of Jackson County's Board of Equalization presented new findings Thursday, which he claims show flaws in how the county conducted this year's property assessments. Preston Smith, a Board of Equalization representative for the Blue Springs School District, presented his findings to the board.

  1. Game is rigged. They may lower the assessment by a pittance, as long as you sign off and accept their offer with a promise to not file or get involved in a lawsuit against them.

    Corrupt to the freaking core.

  2. BOE Chairman Christopher Smith. Smith is a local attorney with Krigel & Krigel and he can't figure out what to do to stop and fix this corrupt illegal mess?

He should just resign if he's that stupid.

  3. Both the Assessment Department and BOE should have a major lawsuit launched against them for fraud and negligence at this point.

  4. HA HA, the whole county is flawed.

  5. These people on the BOE keep saying the process was flawed and wrong and don't do a damn thing to stop it. They have had plenty of time and the resources to get the legal advice they need. Just call a halt to the whole process, freeze taxes where they are, and let the interested parties start filing their rebuttals. Everyone will pay the same taxes they did last year while this plays out. The BOE members should be ashamed of themselves that they cannot help the taxpayers out as they were elected to do. All of them need to be replaced with competent people.

  6. Fire that dumb bitch Gail Beatty. Fire Gail Beatty at the County and Bruce Beatty at the City.

  7. All these crooks need to do is continue to stonewall the public until the tax bills hit the mailboxes the day before Thanksgiving then say "fuck you you ain't getting any money back" if you payed under protest.

Thats the way we do KC!

  8. Well maybe they will succeed in clearing out all the unwashed (old people and hispanics) in Westside by next year so more fancy schmancy elitist McMansions can be built.

  9. How much more evidence does frank need to prove that this whole mess is screwed up? Is he truly that stupid?

  10. ^^^ He's trying avoid and deflect off a big lawsuit or jail time.

    Desperate men do stupid things.

  11. Look the assessment department saw everyone got rich due to the great SLie James renaissance so it's easy to afford that 80% to 1008% tax increase.

  12. I know a guy that bought his house in 2018 thinking he had a stable and affordable situation and now won't even be able to afford to live in it because of his assessment and the tax increase that comes with it.

  13. BOE doesn't give a shit. BOE Chairman Christopher Smith's term is up on Dec 31, 2019 so why should he give a shit?

Be interesting to see who Frank White appoints to his position won't it?

  14. Most residents voted for tax hikes. They voted for the GO Bond that would benefit developers. They voted for water hikes knowing the city was failing to fix other issues with tax dollars. People were buying houses that were way overprice both in high crime areas and in better areas.
So what did everyone expect to happen. Sad thing is people will turn right around and vote for the same people who are screwing you now.

  15. County needs revenue ASAP. Property tax hike is good standard operating procedure. Look at roads, bridges, homeless begging on plaza ... were all broke and need repair.

  16. Vote democrats in. They will help you'all out. They CARE about people!

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha
