One in custody after reported carjacking, car chase, police say

One person is in custody after a carjacking, police chase and crash Monday afternoon, police said. Police said officers started a pursuit involving a vehicle taken in a carjacking just after 1:30 p.m.That chase lasted around 15 minutes, winding through downtown Kansas City, before the driver struck another vehicle and eventually crashed near 31st and Benton.The driver of the carjacked vehicle was taken into custody after a short foot chase, police said.

In the afternoon, the governor plans to meet with Mayor Quinton Lucas and several area pastors to talk about the area's crime crisis.

Clay County Sheriff's Office seeks help to ID porch pirate

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Clay County Sheriff's Office is asking for help to identify a serial porch pirate. Several photos were published on the Clay County Sheriff's Facebook page Monday afternoon. According to the post, the man pictured in the photos has "been stealing packages in the northland [sic] from doorsteps."

California trucker sentenced for stealing load of meat

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) - Authorities say a California trucker working for a Kansas freight brokerage has been sentenced to federal prison for stealing a load of meat valued at more than $160,000. The U.S. attorney's office said in a news release that 37-year-old Gegham Avetisyan of Valley Village, California, was sentenced Monday to 15 months in prison.

Woman accused of slashing tires on eight Raytown police vehicles

RAYTOWN, MO (KCTV5) - A Kansas City woman is accused of flattening tires on police cars in Raytown one day after she was arrested. Prosecutors say Eunice Fisher slashed tires on at least eight police vehicles belonging to the Raytown Police Department. According to court documents, investigators watched the police department's parking lot surveillance video.

KANSAS CITY, MO (AP) - In the annals of Wild West lawmen, you may not know Thomas Speers, the first police chief in Kansas City, but he was a legend in the late 19th century. "He was contemporaries with 'Bat' Masterson, Wyatt Earp, 'Wild Bill' Hickok," his great-grandson Clay Speers told KCUR-FM.
