Amanda Kauffman strolled into the back room at Cinder Block Brewery Monday night with a beer in one hand and a yoga mat in the other.

Work underway to repair Beardsley Road Bridge in KC

A $2.2 million project is underway to repair an important bridge connecting the Crossroads and the West Bottoms.The Beardsley Road Bridge between West 12th and West 17th streets will undergo major repairs through the spring.Fires, attributed to homeless camps underneath the bridge, damaged piers and steel beams. "The heat got hot enough that it actually heated the steel and popped the concrete off," engineer Chad Thompson said.The damage has kept the bridge impassable to vehicle traffic since last year.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - A handful of Kansas counties are being urged to upgrade their voting machines to a voting system that creates a paper record of each vote. The Topeka Capitol-Journal reports the American Association for the Advancement of Science urged Geary, Grant, Greeley, Hamilton, Harvey, Sumner, Wallace and Wilson counties to upgrade to newer voting machines.
