Jimmy C Slams Kansas City Star Cutbacks

Check the comprehensive newsman review of the recent switcheroo at this town's last, largest daily newspaper.

There's no doubt this former columnist knows the impact of musical chairs on coverage but his industry analysis might overestimate the financial solvency of the newspaper biz and the hedge funds circling the company like sharks.

Still a great read and far more objective and fact-based than so many other newsie bloggers who can't get over their hurt feelings after leaving the organization. Checkit:

The Star insults readers with a reporting shell game

What a difference four years makes in the way a failing newspaper chain covers the comings and goings of high-level managers at its own newspapers. On Sept. 25, 2015, The Star carried a nine-paragraph story about Mi-Ai Parrish resigning as publisher of The Kansas City Star, a McClatchy paper, to take a comparable post at...

  1. The citizens of the city that want and or can afford the Star are by enlarge conservatives. The pinko Star just pisses them off. Most of the pinko citizens are young and or unemployed and disinterested in reading.

  2. Jimmy C's recommendation is just like the "historic preservation" gang who DEMAND that they should be able to tell property owners how to spend their money on their buildings.
The Star and McClatchy are both sucking financial fumes and have been now for years. Maybe Jimmy didn't notice that they had to sell the building they've owned for many decades just to pay current operating expenses.
    Not a good sign.
It's always easy to spend other people's money.
Just ask the menagerie at 12th and Oak.

  3. Unless Jeff Bezos decides that the KC Star is "Dying In Darkness" (Read: not Progressive enough.) and buys this trinket for his new hot wife, it's deader than disco.

  7. ^^^^^^ And yet, it won't be that long at all. They kept on saying how strong they were before they laid off a few hundred employees. Now the skeleton crew isn't so convincing. Strange not weird.

  9. After reading Jimmy C- it’s clear no one understands the failure behind lost readership.
    Politics.
Here is an example: MELINDA HENNEBERGER
She goes on a liberal talking point diatribe about how Republicans are compromising security by storming in impeachment BS.
No witnesses can be disposed by Republicans, no transparency, and they are hell bent to get Trump no matter what.
Hennebugger alienates all conservatives and expects them to buy the star? Karma Melissa.
Your online “paper”... the new one- is hard to navigate back and forth- locks up- has ads that I have no idea how they got there- and you want me to help pay your wages?
Here is a nice message for you:
Go fuck your self. And good luck courting new readers... at least conservatives.

  10. ^^^They don’t court conservative readers dummy because of two reasons, the first is they’re dying everyday so there’s reason to court them. The second is they can’t read.
