JEALOUS OF KANSAS CITY DOWNTOWN RENAISSANCE: GOLDEN GHETTO NOW GOING AFTER MILLENNIAL HIPSTERS!!!

Pitch provides an optimistic writeup and that stumbles upon a fundamental truth . . .

KANSAS CITY METRO POLITICOS ARE SO BEREFT OF ORIGINALITY AND INSIGHT THAT NOW THEY'RE REPEATING EACH OTHER'S TRENDY MISTAKES!!!

The millennial revolution in KCMO was a nothing but a New York Times glam article based on a couple of interviews and PR. Sadly, suburbanites are taking an old idea and recycling it . . . Poorly.

Johnson County is betting big on millennials. Will they come?

If you're a twentysomething or thirtysomething denizen of Kansas City's metro core, there's something your Kansas neighbors want you to know: Johnson County, the land of cul-de-sacs and country club conservatives, is becoming cool.

  3. The adventure-less journey. Come sit next to a coffee truck and pretend it's cutting edge.

  4. Give the herds what they desire and they will come.

  5. Don't move to Kansas City. Problem solved.

  6. The Pitch is now officially in the "Meaningless Babble Business" now?

  7. You'll notice nobody is trying to attract geezers. The above comments show why. They are do-nothing crybabies. Stay in Frogville losers.

  8. If Johnson County wants to compete? Just follow the Sly James taxpayer funded "Amusement Park" model. Put your important people in clown suits and bow ties and teach them how to tweet.

The kid's will be flocking from all over the world to live there.

  9. Suburban downtown areas do have an appeal, especially to empty nesters who want to own an auto that will not be stolen. But the developers move in with high rise apartments and ruin what made the areas attractive in the first place.

  10. Young people have been talking about "Johnson County Beige" for decades. It's not a new phenomena. 30 years ago I remember friends saying things like..."I'd never live in JoCo"...."I'd never live south of 75th street"...."I want to raise my family in Brookside"..."I need character and diversity". Once they had kids they realized good schools, safe neighborhoods, and a little extra space are their priorities. Those with better jobs will move to the more desirable areas in NE JoCo while those that can't afford it will live further South and West. These inner suburb downtown areas will be a draw though - totally agree that people like having good food/restaurants/shopping in their neighborhood instead of driving to Oak Park Mall, the Plaza, or downtown.

I think it's laughable that Pitch talked about location of jobs. The reality is the suburbs have more jobs and high paying jobs that downtown. Plus, they don't have a 1% earnings tax.

    1. 10:10 nice post until you added diversity. Nobody in their right mind would ever say they needed diversity.

  11. Comment at 10:10, last paragraph, or true even than that. Downtown KCMO is hemorrhaging jobs even in past ten years. Subsidized luxury dwellings everywhere. Jobs are fleeing and gone. Questionable public policy to hollow out the central biz district with all the debt when there’s no worthy jobs coming in. -Radish

  12. Isn't that the area close to all the Section 8 project housing?

  13. Maybe parts of JoCo but there's no way I'd live in overland park. They bought into the diversity meme hard and it's slowly eroding the city
