Jackson County Informal Property Tax Assessment Appeals Finished: Now What?!?

First and foremost, here's the official word from the County . . .

Jackson County Assessment Department completes residential informal review requests

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. is pleased to announce that the Assessment Department has completed processing all informal review requests for residential properties that were submitted as part of the 2019 biennial reassessment process.

Jackson County received nearly 22,000 (residential and commercial) informal review requests, which only represents approximately 7.3% of all parcels.

“Our Assessor and her staff have worked very hard to ensure that every single property owner who had concerns was heard,” said Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. “We have maintained our commitment to a fair and accurate reassessment and as this process moves forward, that is what we will continue to do.”

Residential property owners who filed an informal review request have been or are in the process of being notified of the Assessment Department’s decision. This notice of decision will primarily be sent via email. Property owners are encouraged to check their inbox, spam and junk mail folders for such notification and potential stipulations.

A stipulation is an agreement between the County and the property owner on a property’s assessed valuation.

In addition, the Assessment Department is nearing completion of all informal review requests for commercial properties. Notification on these properties is provided in a similar fashion as described above.

If property owners choose to file an appeal with the Board of Equalization after receiving notification from the Assessment Department, they have 21 days to do so from the date of the notice.

  1. Tend to side with KMBC on this one. The outcome is going to be good for anybody currently in office at the county right now once these bills come due.

There was a mass denial of the informal appeals. No on site inspections.

The county did not follow the process outlined in the charter. The Star needs to report that!

  3. From September first to today with two holidays included and only counting work days that’s 34 business days, dividing 22,000 by 34 comes to 647 reviews a day..... impossible.

Who does he think he’s kidding, that level of incompetence boggles the mind.

  4. ^^^^^^^ YES. Locals can do math even if Frank can't.

They just told the whole county to screw off. The whole county needs to be fired over this.

  5. The Star embarrassed itself with this "reporting."

  6. Frank White is lying, and some people ARE having to sell their homes because of this debacle. It's not fair to citizens and it shows how unethical, unprofessional, and immoral the county leadership is.
Time for new people in positions of power at Jackson County.

There are still thousands of people who haven't heard back on their informal appeals.

  9. Apparently the commie red star forgot about the maximum 15% tax increase, does anybody at the red star do any research before spewing out such garbage?

  10. They pretty much just agreed to lower it to what the ppl who appealed wanted. If yours was raised and you didn't appeal you lost out.

  13. Don't forget on top of your assessed value hike your going to get that Go Bond tacked on and the 23% new school levy added on. Good luck folks you're going to need it. I don't think you will be able to sell unless you sell cheap.

  14. Democrats raised your property taxes. Remember that duriing the 2020 election.

Democrats are Communists, redistributing the earnings and savings from the country's working citizens to line the pockets of Democrat bureaucrats and their crony consultants.

Frank White (Democrat) did not make even his own property tax payments. A shady deal from Mike Sanders law firm just a couple of years ago bailed him out.

Senator Cleaver (Democrat) did not pay his property taxes on his car wash businesses. Corruption at its highest = Democrats.

  15. RECALL FRANK WHITE!!!!!

  16. 5:46 Right on! Because the Republicans and President Trump are pillars of ethics, moral righteousness and cutting taxes (for the rich). We are doubly screwed because BOTH parties are rotten to the core.

  17. Merely telling everybody no, we are not adjusting the assessment isn't really processing the informal appeal, is it?

    ReplyDelete
  18. 7:34 - Define "rich". Everyone paid lower taxes as a result of the Trump tax cuts which means more money in their pockets. Are you defining anyone who works and earns a paycheck as "rich"???
