An architect offers a glimpse at MLB design trends along with insight and suggestions for new stadiums that are cropping up around the nation as Kansas City insiders realize they're gonna have to offer something nice to keep the team . . . Take a look:
What the future of the American ballpark should look like
The American stadium is in retreat. Across sports, broad swaths of unoccupied seats have become a common sight. The reasons why can be debated - the cost of attendance is rising, fans are busier with other forms of entertainment, or many simply prefer watching from a bar or a couch than a stadium seat - but the sinking numbers at the gate can't be denied.
The sinking numbers at the gate might have a direct correlation with 2 straight seasons of 100 losses.
ReplyDeleteWhilst our education system is a failure , our murder rate high. We worry about subsidizing crap Teams for another man's profits.
ReplyDeleteThe Truman Sports Complex remains a great place to be for a sporting event, baseball, Football or World Cup Soccer. Knock off this stupid diatribe about a downtown stadium. No parking, crime, murder, drugs, thugs and homeless beggars are the norm downtown.
ReplyDeleteWhen do we get the "Rollin Roof" at the Truman Complex that the construction money from the original State-guaranteed Bond Issue paid for?
ReplyDelete^^^^^^Sorry that proposition lost...there were two of them one for updates one for the roof the roof got voted down.
DeleteI think it'd be a good thing. Would bring a lot of $ downtown.
ReplyDeleteBuild a jail and not a stadium Kansas City.
ReplyDeleteThere are many reasons for declining attendance but the club's total emphasis on selling only high end season tickets and ignoring everyone else is a problem. The other issue is they may have simply over estimated the average fan's willingness to pay. My tickets cost $6 40 years ago, they are now averaging $50. A beer 40 years ago was $1, its now $10. If prices has only risen by inflation the ticket would be about $25 and a beer $5. Like any other business they try to maximize pricing but sometimes they overprice.
ReplyDeleteWhen Mr K ran the club he made sure there were cheap seats and young people took advantage to party in the right field bleachers. As we grew wealthier we became lifelong attendees. I don't see that happening in today's game.
Truman sports complex isn't the greatest place to watch sports. I have chiefs and royals season tickets. It works for the chiefs (because they only have 8 games a year) but not the royals. KC needs to split these teams apart and there's too much association between the two that does no good for either team of the community. Royals need to go downtown, but they also need to go to a good location downtown, NOT the eastside. Near crown center would be ideal.
ReplyDeleteRoyals stadium even after the $400 million renovation or however much it was, already looks and feels dated and it's only been ten years
We have a wonderful stadium that millions of dollars have been invested in. As for the economic impact downtown... right now through February the thing would be out of use. You want things that attract year round.
ReplyDeletethe scoreboard sign is the only thing folks driving THROUGH KC on i-70 remember. Do not think the site lines from the highway for folks driving THROUGH KC will be conducive to maintain a reconstructed sign's iconic stature.
ReplyDeletePersonally I wouldn’t go downtown to take a shit
