DID MAYOR QUINTON LUCAS JUST LEGALIZE WEED IN KANSAS CITY, MO?!?!
Here's the word from the new mayor parting company with KCPD over local weed law . . .
Mayor Quinton Lucas: In recent weeks I've been wondering why municipal government is in the marijuana ordinance enforcement business at all? #KCMO is considering 100 gram decriminalization as an ordinance matter, but the better move may be to remove marijuana as an offense from the municipal code altogether.
It doesn’t change state treatment of marijuana possession, distribution, etc., as an offense, and thus our four (4) local prosecutors would still have ability to prosecute or decline to prosecute for any and all marijuana offenses. We won’t create inconsistency with state law or in the different counties in our city... instead we will just get out of the business.
Our municipal court resources for recovery and prosecution (and defense) can go to other areas and we can continue looking to address other concerns for which we have expertise and unique abilities for enforcement, not just duplicating what the county prosecutors already do.
You decide . . .
