BIKE LANE DEADLINE ON ARMOUR ROAD!!! NKC LIMITS BIKE/WALK EXPERIMENT AMID COMPLAINTS OF TRAFFIC HOT MESS!!!

A packed house for the NKC bike walk meeting last night mostly included politicos, consultants, newsies and all manner of interlopers who don't live in the neighborhood.

What our KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS noticed . . .

PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY RESIDE IN NKC ARE SKEPTICAL OF BIKE LANES AND ANNOYED BY THE INCONVENIENCE!!!

In fairness, transit activist/consultants are much better at spamming Twitter with their branding efforts.

A quote in support of bike lanes to be really fair:

"We've been way too car-focused, and if you look at the businesses coming up south of Armour, there are will be a lot more pedestrian traffic soon, and that's why we need slower speeds on Armour," a #NorthKansasCity resident who runs and walks in his city.

Brief aside: Credit to Bike/Walk KC for the lead photo that we made our own via fair use and because the operation is City Hall funded so our reader sorta paid for it already.

Meanwhile, more residents voiced the typical bike line complaints:

- Nobody uses the lanes and they're empty most of the time.

- The lanes push seniors out into the street and they have to get out of their car in the middle of traffic.

- Bike lanes are ugly and they create a false sense of security. They only slow down traffic obeying the law and make pedestrians more vulnerable to drivers who are confused by or speed thru the obstacles.

- The bike lanes cut down on driver & pedestrian visibility.

- Bike lanes cost too much money and limit biz traffic.

In the end, the NKC council voted unanimously to give the Armour Road project 6 months and then evaluate the data in the Spring.

If bike/walk activists want to make their case about the efficacy of these lanes, their use will have to be obvious amid what is rumored to be a cold and unforgiving Winter on the way.

Moreover, an insider asks us:

IS THE BIKE LANE FAD OVER??? DOES THE NKC PUSH BACK REVEAL THAT LOCALS NO LONGER ACCEPT THE SKETCHY PREMISE THAT BIKE LANES ARE VITAL TO URBAN GROWTH?!?! IS IT OKAY TO REJECT CYCLIST SUPREMACY???

Most of the NKC politicos seemed eager to avoid any public embarrassment and punting on the issue amid neighborhood complaints was a safe move and a sign that more locals have serious questions about an urban philosophy that makes life harder for all but a few cyclists.

  1. $700,000 mistake.

Council had to save face rather than deal with real complaints.

Hope nobody gets killed because of these blockades in the meantime. Unfortunate that bike/walk kc would put so many people at risk just to try and prove a point.

    1. What's the number of the people actually using the lanes? Why won't bike kc answer that?

    2. ^^^ +100

I guess NKC has to get their own data since all the cyclists do is spout propaganda.

      Think about it.

    3. Mr. Ari Stocrat...10/16/19, 8:55 AM

If you take all of the amount of money spent on all of the bicycle projects that have affected and impacted real people travel. Including emergency vehicles oh, they could have built one hell of a sweet Aerodrome and bicycle Park down on the river front area. This way they would have had their own place no cars would have bothered them and they wouldn't have bothered anybody what does spandex tirades

  2. About time someone pushed back. I'm not against bike riders but I am against a very small minority pushing their wants and special needs on to the majority when that small minority in no way pays for their wants. Time for all these special interest groups to start supporting what they want with their own money

  3. ^^^You don't even live in NKC, or Missouri moron! Nobody gives a shit what you think! Your opinion doesn't count for shit on this! Jesus, go find something better to do!

  4. What I do not understand is why the controversial decisions like these are not put up to a public vote? Oh I know why, because they would get voted down.

  5. ^^Have you seen the public? They're dumb!

  6. We could create a bike lane on our block for about $40 bucks.

Bunch and Rogers claim it's going to take $400 Million?

Chase the crooks and liars out of town and send them back to where they came from already. That would be the best thing that could ever happen.

  9. Eric Bunch is half baked, just like 8:42. Hats off to North Kansas City for fighting this. Midtown residents didn't have enough backbone to fight and look at all of the little freaks in Central Hyde Park who are bitching now.

I approve this message I'm a Kansas City Native and have lived both north of the river and south of the river just in case 8:42 and their psychic abilities wants to say I don't live here.

  12. They should check ID to get in there. Not a resident of of NKC, then back to KCMO where you can ejaculate your pozzed load on each other's bike lane loving faces

  13. and yet it was 8:42AM who in fact did the knocking of the fuck out. Weird.

  14. Every driver should have a biker for a hood ornament

  15. Bicyclists don't even stay in the lanes, the one or two that use them.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Bike lanes are great!
I plan to use them for sure!
Someday in 2023 or at least by 2024 I hope to maybe buy a bike and ride a block or two... maybe find a peloton or two.
And right after that I hope to support the Toy Train in KC! Maybe in 2025 or So I will take it to city market and perhaps buy a small cup of coffee and split it with someone... you know... truly help out the economy and support a local business... as long as a Starbucks is not down there... which I hope it is!!
Hope this small act by me creates hundreds of new jobs like the new airport surely will.

  17. Bikes should be licensed, and taxed, to use the lanes. And the riders should have both liability insurance and health insurance. Funeral insurance would be a good idea too, Lots on impaired drivers are going to be driving SUV's inches from your head.

  18. dream on 10:53 you fucking retard, if you want to see the real stupid fucks in KC just look for assholes here in this blog who say weird, chimpy and diaper crap many times a day while telling you to go watch Matlock.

  20. Why does NKC need bike lanes? There aren’t that many homosexuals that live in NKC.

    ReplyDelete
  21. So, the elected ones bullied NKC into a trial , ( 6 months- 4 months will be covered in snow and ice), push it threw in secret meetings, do the same to the Eastside.. Have meetings in the snow where most can't come, ram it threw, in more secret meetings, do it anyway cause n*****s are lazy and stupid. We white people are smarter. Pass it through. We passed it up North. Right in there faces. Just try it, you might like it Mikey White. It's green. Everyone likes green. We like green. Bathe in this green. Fill up on this green. Feed and teach your babies green. Remember, green, is good. There's money to be made up North. Next the Eastside. Because we care, like the GOP... 2% Lives Matter. Strikers hit the food banks, ride your bikes and bring your own bags, save that gas, we have bike lanes to feed the families. No turkey for Thanksgiving this year, you're green, no toys for the kiddies, unsalted unshoveled lanes though. Most of al God bless everyone and God bless the USA. We have bike lanes and empty new hotels, no new businesses, more taxes, higher taxes, and guess what, they'll have to raise more taxes.

    3. Chimpy, your best strategy was probably your first one, which was not to acknowledge your new name in the first place. But, predictably, you just couldn't help yourself.

Try harder, and congratulations on accepting your name.

      The one we gave you.;)

    1. Chimpy, and again good work on accepting your ape name, this wouldn't even be effective if there was only one person constantly making fun of you. And it took you this long???

I may need to apologize to actual chimps!

      See you soon, Chimpy!

      We branded you.

We named you, and now you've accepted it.

      Good job, silly monkey. ;)
