Armour Road Bike Lanes Confound NKC

Armour Road redesign divides North Kansas City

NORTH KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The new bike lanes on Armour Road in North Kansas City were designed to make it safer for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists, but the new lanes are having an unintended consequence - they are the community. "It's a safety measure for North Kansas City," avid cyclist Kathy West said.

  1. Ah let's guess maybe two people will use this.

  2. ^^^^ You've got the right idea, but you're actually being generous.

  3. The NKC council, mayor and bureaucrats will rue the day they did this to NKC. People are mad.

  4. Monkey see monkey do...no matter how dumb, irresponsible and unnecessary.

  5. The "advocates" of biking and walking aren't helping. People who don't cross the river at all costs are the people promoting the new design in North Kansas City. North Kansas City is a desirable place to live and the redesign is intended to tap into benefits as such. The RideKC employees promoting the redesign need to "stay in their lane". Focus on increasing ridership on the buses, the empty buses circling downtown at a cost of $100 million per year...

  6. Bike/Walk KC and Councilman Bunch hate cars. Their poor leadership and arrogance have resulted in a bike plan that does not reflect what the public wants. It has resulted in wasted public dollars and confusion for all those who use these streets.

  7. Thank you NKC for showing the metro how stupid these bike lane concepts are. Will KCMO catch a clue now that a second street named Armour has been destroyed? The world wonders...

  8. REMOVE BIKE LANES on ARMOUR BOULEVARD!

  9. The NKC Director of Parks & Rec tried to talk the City Manager out of this- shame he wouldn't listen.

  10. The road is too narrow and congested for this crap. It’s bad at night. Barely can see lanes.

  11. Need stats on how many bike riders were injured by the bad old cars in NKC. Need info on how the street dept is going to clear snow and ice from the streets this winter. Need to know which genius put a bus stop on an island between traffic and bike lanes. Someone hit the bus stop sign already. Lucky there was no one sitting on the bench when it happened. How many times is NKC going to have to repair the curbs when the semi-trucks barrel through, even though they aren't permitted.

  12. Need to fire city manager. Problem solved.

  13. Question the necessity because NKC not too bad at all to get around on a bike status quo ante. Nice wide roads, flat grades, streets are in decent shape and get swept because NKC flush with cash. These lanes vex even well meaning and cautious drivers even if no bike is using it, which is bad for cyclists.

Please be careful when driving! And remember these self anointed bike activists are just posers and not real cyclists who get Around town on a bike. They don’t speak for us. They speak for the Johnson county spandex crowd who park their hybrid at 31st and Gilliam and then ride four abreast around town just for shits n giggles not to really get around.

Those “traffic islands” referenced in the link — along with close cousins like big bumped out curbs that narrow the road for no reason especially At intersections or the silly “road diet” fads — are very bad design and dangerous for cyclists and wheelchairs and strollers

    Thanks,
    Radish
