Urban Planners Pick Kansas City Winners And Losers Amid Rampant Gentrification

Tonight's Kansas City Public Library conversation pushes the interests of cyclists and condo dwellers over homeowners and motorists.

Are You Ready for the Next Kansas City?

Deets:

The American urban landscape is in another period of major reinvention, with today’s challenges remaking a world we built for ourselves in the 20th century.

Kicking off a new fall installment of the Library’s Making a Great City series, Kansas City-based urban planner, designer, and architect Kevin Klinkenberg examines . . .

Why and how cities are changing, who the winners and losers have been, and how municipalities can make the most of this evolution – looking closely at Kansas City and other noncoastal metropolitan areas.

Klinkenberg is the founder and operator of K2 Urban Design, returning to Kansas City after four years as executive director of the Savannah, Georgia, Development and Renewal Authority. His presentation is co-presented by the Hall Family Foundation and Gould Evans.

  1. Why does a very small group of fair weather bike riders get lanes ? ADA compliant sidewalks is all that is required.

  2. Bike lanes suck. We need more trash pick up and police.

If you're going to make a whole bunch of new homeless people, then you need to keep pushing the false narrative that the homeless are homeless by choice.

  5. Obviously Byron cannot find another blog close to home, or anywhere else for that matter, who will allow him to espouse his nonsense, so he has to assuage his ego clear back in KC. Sad.

  6. Many of the homeless are in fact bums, who of their own volition choose to live apart from society and its restrictions. In a way I don't blame them. But I have no moral or legal duty to support them. Maybe they can score a Social Security Disability rating.

  7. Can someone give a run down (summary) on what was said during the event?
