TKC MUST READ!!! RIDEKC SCOOTER RIPOFF?!?! INSIDER: WORKING POOR CAN'T AFFORD KANSAS CITY TAXPAYER SUBSIDIZED NEW TECH TRANSIT OPTION!!!

Can't take credit for this BRILLIANT analysis from a Kansas City insider on the topic electric scooter options in Kansas City.

Fact check that every reporting in KC covering transit missed:

"These RideKC Bike folks have no shame. Their business model isn't self-sustaining so they lobby City Hall to gain a competitive advantage. They make hollow promises like “scooters on the East side,” but never actually make the program affordable. You can ride a Bird or Spin for less than $2 to start, no scooter deposit needed. You can't go 10 feet on a RideKC scooter without putting down a $150 deposit, which then takes 7-10 days for your bank to release. If a poor person actually rode a RideKC scooter to and from work, they would need to float $1,500 in deposit authorizations per week. Poor people don't have $1,500 in the bank for deposits. City Hall is going to run Bird/Spin out of town. We will be left with RideKC's terrible app/policies, and they'll either go under or start demanding hundreds of thousands in tax revenue a year."

Don't doubt that last line as KC recently banned the deployment of scooters on The Plaza and quizzically keeps pouring money into the RideKC effort.

  1. If I were working poor, would be more worried about serious injury on a scooter. Not a good option if you don't have world class insurance.

    1. Read this on the blog a few weeks ago, KC shouldn't be paying for any scooters when there are private companies who are providing better service. This pricing differential proves that again.

  2. Slap the word "tech" on it and you have your free ticket to plummet the public and fuck everything up in sight you put your hands on.

  3. Amazon sells several electric folding scooters for less than $500. And since they fold up, you can take them on a RideKC bus or toy train. That's the better system than renting them.

  4. Another example of the sad fact that the clowns "running" KCMO government will focus on pretty much ANYTHING other than the actual responsibilities of municipalities.
    Fix and maintain the streets!
Get a serious handle on all the homicides!
Provide some relief and management for the water department!
Stop throwing away the taxpayers' money on every glitzy fad that comes along!
    Get serious!
When is the next election, again?

  5. Here's a more accurate interpretation: we don't want negroes stealing our scooters so we have to put a deposit on them so only whites will rent them since they don't steal things the way negroes no.

    Clear as day.

  7. I see scooters all over the hood, thrown on the ground mostly but to say they can’t afford them is crazy, I bet if you ask the scooter company’s they could tell you how many are picked up in the hood, besides, these “poor” people can ride the bus a helluva a lot cheaper, the scooters won’t be around in the winter anyway.

This sounds or better yet wreaks of someone trying to bleed the taxpayers for more money.

  8. Why are we competing with the private market for scooters? What's next? Grocery stores? Oh, wait, that's right.

  10. ^^^^ Good call. It's a shame that such an important organization like RideKC is playing around with scooters when they should be paying attention to what's happening along their routes. Bus service is getting a lot worse all over KC and it's not scooters that people care about.

  11. Only GAY people ride those scooters! So when you are downtown at least you know who and where the Gay people are...saw one the other day while at a red light that had a KCFD sticker on it.

  12. None of the scooter companies are profitable... which is why the business is attractive to the geniuses running the city.
