TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! MAYOR QUINTON'S TEAM FLIP FLOPS ON DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY BASEBALL STADIUM ALREADY!!!

Just a quick TKC FACT CHECK and something to watch . . .

JUST AS TKC PREDICTED!!! TEAM QUINTON ISN'T SO HOSTILE TO THE IDEA OF A DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY BASEBALL STADIUM AS THE 'EAST VILLAGE IDEA TAKES HOLD!!!

The reality is that that in less than three months the new mayor's team is a lot less hostile to taxpayer subsidized corporate development near the loop.. Behind the scenes, THEY are already "recruiting" urban core leaders to help make the pitch to voters.

No, this deal isn't years away and locals will start the push for the stadium far before the 2030 deadline because a billion dollar team isn't loyal to ANY town despite the chatter of fanboys or flimsy lease agreement with the corrupt Jackson County Courthouse.

A peek at the East Village spot . . .

  1. LET'S GET IT DONE!

No time to waste and now time to renegotiate with the county. Have the stadium completed by 2025!

  2. Like I've said, nobody with money is going to want to come to a stadium anywhere near the 'hood because the place will be a magnet for negroes who beg - which is all of them - and they'll bring their robbing, raping and stealing (all negro vocations) with them for the ride, and they'll be down there selling peanuts infested with their diseases and their fake tickets printed on stolen computers and oh my God the smell those animals put off is horrible!

So, no. Build it in Grain Valley.

  3. That’s a really stupid place to put it, they’re is plenty of room and land the city or state owns along the river, that’s the trend nowadays anyway, putting stadiums by scenic rivers and bridges.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I'm for it as long as the toy train runs from Blue Springs to the Stadium and I always have a reserved seat. Pending that, no way Jose!

  6. the traffic will be a cluster fck, how is that not obvious.
BUT with clay's new maintainable, sustainable, environmentally high speed transit it isn't!

  7. This is a good idea, and one that will pass easily. This is destiny. Build it and people will come. Not Charlie Horse though which is actually a blessing because he's drunk all the time and stinks like shit.

  8. @8:00am is right. You just watch this crazy cowtown put the stadium in the wrong place.

  9. I hate to scare you geezers but this needs to happen in quinton's 1st term. the stadium is too important to put off. Locking in the royals is a must and we can't lose the team. Politics is for loser, keeping the royals helps all of KC.

  11. What will we do with the one we just sunk $700,000,000.00 into out East?

    Have chariot races and gladiators?

    A flea market?

    A Drive In?

Fill it with water and make it a public swimming pool?

    Open air casino?

Throw a YUGE piece of wood across the top and make it a bean bag toss for Gentle Giants?

    The new T-Bones location?

    Section 8 housing?

An ICE facility for the legions of MS 13 'victims' of the white patriarchy?

KC Sea World with blue whales?

Hey, I got it, just let it rot and rust away where it is and then after a while, raise property taxes to have it torn down with ONLY minority companies bidding, because, you know..., slavery.

  12. Can name it Costco Stadium

    ReplyDelete
  13. Move it to New Hampshire, or..., am I in Vermont?

  14. The old stadium, could be used to store the cash it will take to fund the 16 Trillion Dollar, New Green Deal and our local pols could siphon off some of the cash to hand out to there cronies to pay for the $25.00 Hot Dogs and $48.00 6oz. beers that will be for sale at the new stadium.

    WIN WIN!!

    You're welcome!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Since 1995, a staggering 29 of the 31 stadiums that house NFL (Baseball is just as bad.) teams received public subsidies for construction, renovation or both. Between 1995 and today, taxpayers have been forced to spend nearly $7 billion subsidizing NFL stadium construction and renovation projects.

Taxpayers build the factories (stadiums) where the NFL’s essential employees (football players) produce its saleable goods (footballs games). What a deal. Congress gives you a monopoly and the taxpayers build your factories. Then all you have to do is run the factory for half of the year and play a football game once a week. It’s a guaranteed gravy train for everyone. The NFL could profit forever.

But..., still...., tax payers gotta come up with the cash.

Does it pay off for the locals?

    NO.

    https://www.cato.org/publications/commentary/governmentfunded-stadiums-not-worth-price-admission

These fin de siecle, outdated initiatives come at the cost of good stewardship of current tax revenues and suck the cash out of the poor and middle class.

    It is what it is.

    ReplyDelete
  19. This is probably the most stupidest idea at the chamber of commerce and the downtown council's ever come up. With we have the most beautiful stadium in all baseball and now we want to build a new stadium downtown in the inner City. What are these people thinking we've already put half a million dollars into the new baseball stadium a couple years ago and who would go into the inner city late at night they'll even go to the jazz district at night. I think it's time to start the throw these idiots out of office invoke good people lamp.

  20. Chuck, how come you are not at work? You lazy bastard!

    ReplyDelete
  21. As long as there’s no tax money involved, the Royals can build a stadium anywhere they want. I’m not ever going there and I’m not voting to pay for it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. If a new stadium is to be built, it would be wise to build it as far away from the negroes in the shithole ghetto and the homosexuals and all their downtown faggotry.

  27. Mayor Quinton "I Was Born A Poor Black Child" Lucas has been promised free beer at the downtown stadium in exchange for his support.

Folks, just like the "single-terminal airport" and the "Toy Train", this project gives you a major clue to the total depravity of the KCMO civic/business community. It's NOT about prudently spending taxpayer dollars on what the community NEEDS (basic infrastructure) but rather it's a game of tearing down what you already have to shift it somewhere else. A thinly-veiled jobs program for developers, attorneys, and construction-related companies.

While perhaps not particularly attractive and packed with amenities, KCI terminals were functional and convenient. They got the job done. The streetcar was completely unnecessary and a vanity project for politicos who went on a multi-city sightseeing junket to the hipster locales of Austin, Portland, etc. "Keeping Up With The Joneses" is a game you'll never win. Now, they're actually moving ahead on this plan to abandon the Royals Kauffman stadium. A stadium that, much like the KCI terminals, has been performing an adequate functional duty as intended.

What do all 3 of these mentioned projects share in common? Well of course, they're publicly-financed projects! No sane businessperson would sink their hard-earned dollars into any of these 3 projects because none were driven by market demand.

In closing, as we've said before, KCMO political leadership is the "town whore." Many people are happy to use and abuse her for their own personal gain and fulfillment, but at the end of the night they're going home to their safe quiet neighborhood (Mission Hills, Leawood, Plaza/Ward Parkway, suburban lakes) where people don't talk about such things.

  28. I support downtown baseball but the east side is a TERRIBLE idea. There's plenty of other spaces.

The issue is MLB stadiums must all face east for consistency and so the sun isn't as bad in the player's eyes. The problem is an east facing stadium looks over nothing. A downtown baseball stadium needs to open up to the skyline of the city.

Unless they change the site so something for south/west they're going to do another folly like they did with the Truman Sports complex. They'll build the stadium for the east side and say "this will build up the east side" so all hundreds of millions we've been throwing at it all these years will finally start paying dividends. That's not how development works but that was also the plan with the Truman sports complex. Remember how they said it was going to spur all sorts of development out there but 50 years later it's still just a denny's and taco bell.

I've been a season ticket holder for almost a decade and I want downtown baseball but if they're going to the east side they may as well just stay where they're at since it wouldn't offer anything in terms of civic pride or put our city on display like every other fucking downtown stadium.

thanks for reading all that shit i just wrote

  38. 10:30, and of course that's how left handed pitchers came to be called southpaws.

During the planning for what became Kaufman, as I understand, a downtown location was considered, and even favored for a while. That location was only tossed when it became clear that getting people into and out of downtown to watch a game would be a nightmare. (And perhaps because influential people had bought land cheap where the ballpark eventually was built, and wanted to cash in - only a rumor though.)

  42. They can put the stadium wherever the new owners want to pay to build it.

    ReplyDelete
  43. People also forget that downtown has to pay a higher tax rate then the rest of the city, this is a very expensive endeavor here and as usual it all revolves around taking as much money from the taxpayers as humanly possible.

  47. Lucas and the new council are just like the others who have darkened the doors of 12th and Oak for decades.
None of them have the slightest interest in what municipal governments actually do and THEY are responsible for.
So, between ribbon-cuttings, town hall meetings, and enjoying the perks and freebies of their office.
Then they mostly sit at their desks and wait for someone to visit them with a big big idea of how to spend the taxpayers' money.
The lists of both favor-seekers and ideas are endless.
And the unencumbered balances in the general fund appear to be too.
Airhead empty vessels, elected to KCMO city government decade after decade.
    What could possibly go wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  48. If Vegas really wants the Royals they can offer packages Kansas City couldn't ever afford to offer. If this is the best KC can offer start waving goodbye.

If you owned the Royals, would you want to see your stadium at this location or somewhere close to all the action Las Vegas has to offer? Almost a no brainer when you really look at it.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Oh come on the new owner will threaten to leave with the team if taxpayers don't pay for this.

    Oldest trick around.

The Q will do a vaudeville act to convince the public KCMO will fall off the face of earth and cease to exist without a new baseball stadium.

  51. Who cares about baseball ?

    ReplyDelete
  52. The question is not where - it's why.

We already have a highly regarded stadium that draws good reviews nationally. The renovations completed in the last 10 years brought it up to date.

The only meaningful improvement that will bring new fans to games is the product ON the field. Great downtown parks, like Pittsburgh, don't draw fans when the team is crap. KC is no different.

It's not broke, so why try to replace it? Prioritize and spend on actual needed improvements in the city.

  55. 6:37 - Well Said.

    ReplyDelete
  56. 10:30 had the most practical comment about the area. A large part of the downtown ballpark aesthetic is showing the skyline or other definitive showcase view of the urban area. Think Pittsburgh as the gold standard.

Baseball rules call for home plate to face east / northeast. That means building west or southwest of downtown.

Immediately west drops off into the west bottoms. The view would be the side of a steep hill. Additionally, we know how Kemper Arena worked down there. Nope.

Just south and west are interstates, the Kauffman Center, and the Crossroads. They aren't going to buy up crossroads properties after spending a couple of decades making the area trendy. There is no good space in that area, period.

The development areas available are north (on the river between Berkley Park and the casino), Harlem on the other side of the river, or east & south of downtown. Berkley park would offer a good view of 1 bridge. The others would have views of nothing but blight beyond the outfield. Terrible ideas.

If money is burning a hole in their pocket and they need cool views, build a few futuristic looking "convention" hotels by the K at I-70 & 435. That would be cheaper than a new relocated stadium.
