In a recent closed meeting at 12th & Oak, City Manager Troy Schulte told his colleagues that he would soon be leave his job.
The KCMO veteran didn't offer a reason but this is the best insight we've heard so far amid this news that breaks FIRST ON TKC:
"He's so close with (Former Mayor) Sly James and that gang, it seems like he just doesn't want to make friends all over again," a KC Insider said.
Behind the scenes his relationship with the new council has been tense and was soon to move to all out political warfare.
He'll wait till his contract is up in February after about a decade in the top job that runs KC more than any other . . .
There are two main consequences of this decision:
New Mayor Quinton Lucas benefits the most from this move. He'll be able to lead a new nationwide search for a new manager and help to find someone who shares his vision of Kansas City.
The emphasis is on a NATIONWIDE search insiders tell us: "We need to look outside of City Hall for a new manager, there's nobody in this building who should get that position."
Second point is more TKC's cup of tea . . .
CITY HALL NOW PREPS A KANSAS CITY CAREER MASSACRE OF DEPARTMENT HEADS AND BUREAUCRATS WHO NO LONGER HAVE TROY'S PROTECTION!!!
Nearly every Kansas City bureaucrat who has enjoyed a relatively calm ride over the past 7-8 years now has a target on their back.
The phrase "heads will roll" doesn't even begin to cut it.
Look for major changes in Water and Aviation which have long served as a dumping ground for employees too politically connected to fire.
Airport construction will also, likely, earn a massive redirect and hopefully a better solution for the abysmal traffic routing during the construction process.
Consensus: City Hall change is underway and City Manager Troy Schulte did the new mayor a huge favor by getting out of his way.
Again, a Kansas City insider sums it up better than TKC:
"Our new Mayor Quinton Lucas now has a clean slate."
And so, here are the UPDATED LOCAL LINKS AFTER TKC FIRST POSTED with a power shift nooner . . .
Northeast News: City Manager Troy Schulte announces retirement
KMBC: KCMO City Manager Troy Schulte to retire in February
KCTV5: KC city manager to retire after more than 21 years of service
KCUR: After 10 Years As Kansas City Manager, Troy Schulte Will Retire In February
KSHB: Long-time KCMO City Manager Troy Schulte will retire in February
Developing . . .
Finally some good news.
ReplyDeleteThis is maybe the best thing that has happened to Kansas City in 7 years.
^^^ that is putting a lot of faith in the new search. Really hope they get this one right.
Delete^^^ Agree. Going outside of City Hall is the right thing to do. For me, that signals they're off to a good start at least.
DeleteSure, bring in someone who doesn't even know where Main Street is, give him/her a map and an oreo and turn them loose.
ReplyDelete^^ +100
ReplyDeleteYou could layoff 1/3rd of the workforce at City Hall and most residents would never know the difference.
Schulte's just like Sly.
ReplyDeleteNeither of them want to be around when the actual financial condition of the city becomes more clear and the long-term debt the taxpayers have been burdened with by the two of them and their groupies finally sees the light of day.
And that whole gang will simply blame Lucas and the current crop of losers for not being able to handle the sophisticated financial arrangements that the former crowd committed the taxpayers to.
It's too bad the city doesn't have a newspaper with the guts, competence, and energy to go out and find where all the land mines and bodies have been buried.
As TKC would say....pending.
He knows his reign of terror/scamming is over and is fleeing town before it gets raw and bloody.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteOne down how many more to go?????
Slie, Jolie, Troy and Randy Landes ...the Mount Rushmore of Kansas City's Financial Armageddon!!!
ReplyDeletePRAISE GOD
ReplyDeleteNow, maybe we can focus on building our infrastructure instead of more hotels and all of tourist attraction projects.
ReplyDeleteShould have been out of there three years ago and saved KC approximately $150 million dollars is subsidies and commitments from our general fund.
ReplyDeleteAfter some of the recent comments on this blog I have given all of my coworkers strict orders not to send me news from this site but some of them insisted that I should see this and already I am DISGUSTED by the reactions and speculation.
ReplyDeleteA lot of you don't know this but Troy Schulte deserves more credit than he is getting for the Renaissance of our Downtown Kansas City. He is truly the architect of a brilliant plan to revive the core of our city and bring back residents, density and vibrancy in the heart of the city. From the streetcar to the hotel and the airport, the work of Mr. Shulte has shined and shown us the way to real progress for our community. Like our Mayor Sly James, if you look around our beautiful downtown you'll see the legacy of his achievement and hard work. Troy Schulte worked hard for KC's comeback and he deserves the credit for this efforts.
We see this blog long for firings and unproductive cost cutting efforts that just make more people miserable but it's very brave leaders like Troy Schulte and Sly James who have pushed our city forward beyond skepticism and toward a brighter future.
Thank you Troy!
^^^^^^^^ hope they paid you by the word.
DeleteAlso hope you get fired first!
He may need a shoeshine on his way out, slave. Hop to it. He's a criminal, and you're his lackey, and that is all of the response your post requires.
DeleteNow the losers have no excuse not to perform! Schulte is the best thing that ever happened to KC. He has taken the heat for the council's ineptness. This is the worst council in history.
ReplyDelete^^^ Good point. Without Troy there isn't a scapegoat. Quinton's clean slate is his to build or destroy. I honestly hope he has some success for the sake of all KC.
ReplyDeleteThere will be a whole bunch of $175,000 a year jobs available soon, no one to protect the scam artists (friends of Troy) anymore, and that includes that disgusting pervert gopher boi, bye bye! Hahahahaha!
ReplyDeleteThere is so much Qrime in KC it's unbelievable
ReplyDeleteIf Lucas wants to protect what reputation he has and really start with a clean slate, now's the time to have the state auditor come in and go to work.
ReplyDeleteA target-rich environment, to be sure.
That will take some guts, though, and his punting on the homicide issue so far isn't very encouraging.
Save yourself, Quinton!
Seriously, how is it that the folks responsible for the collapse of City infrastructure that led to 50,000 potholes (caused by the apparent surprise that winter came this year!) still have jobs to lose?
ReplyDeleteKC had a comeback Gopher ? Thats news to the majority of us that are nowhere near downtown.
ReplyDeleteTroy leaving is better news than a super bowl victory.
ReplyDeleteI kind of feel sorry for Lucas, & your future city manager. They won't be able to stop the violence, or the increasing drug abuse or the increase of homelessness, but they will be vilified for failing.
ReplyDeleteHe might be able to start repairing the infrastructure, but only if he's brave enough to take some bold steps. He doesn't strike me as especially brave, or motivated. He'll probably fall into being the cheerleader in chief, because that is the path of least resistance.
We've been asking the city and county for more police, traffic calming, fiscal responsibility, accountability, respect for neighborhoods and people, etc etc for eight years now and we get NOTHING. Treated with contempt and disregarded. It's disgusting.
ReplyDeleteBYE!
Out just before the bond bubble bursts....
ReplyDeleteGood timing, Troy.
How much more damage can this moron do before February is the real question.
ReplyDeleteBetter count even the plastic spoons in the lunchroom the day after he leaves.
ReplyDeleteGoodbye, fat bastard.
ReplyDeleteGo4KC stated After some of the recent comments on this blog I have given all of my coworkers strict orders not to send me news from this site but some of them insisted that I should see this and already I am DISGUSTED by the reactions and speculation."
ReplyDeleteEven after giving STRICT orders not to send news Go4KC still gets TKC links.
Evidently there is a huge amount of deadwood at city hall that has time to monitor TKC every hour of every day. City hall pulls out all stops to try to control the narrative.
"From the streetcar to the hotel and the airport, the work of Mr. Shulte has shined and shown us the way to real progress for our community."
ReplyDeleteThat's the problem, gopher. While the airport did get a majority of voters to approve it, the streetcar failed in a city-wide vote and then was pushed through on a phony limited vote; taxpayers had no say in the hotel or the luxury apartment subsidies.
In the meantime our infrastructure is failing in spite of taxpayers voting for the GO bonds. I can't even get the city to take care of a trip hazard in front of my house that resulted from shoddy work by a city contractor.
And you wonder why people don't just love their city government?
Go4KC has to be a comedian. I mean seriously.
ReplyDeleteGopher Casey @3:13, does your tongue ever get any rest from slurping those two guys' big brown eyes?
ReplyDeleteJulie Justice for city manager.
ReplyDeleteSo long as it’s not Jolie Justice for City Manager.
DeleteKnowing the way politics works here Q will probably appoint Frank White to City manager.
ReplyDeleteDon't let the door hit you on the way out. I hope they fire Tutera, too.
ReplyDeleteThis is why I supported Quinton for Mayor. Troy didn’t go on his own accord. Quinton pushed him. Department heads your next, make it easy on yourselves and resign.
ReplyDeleteYou must be high. Lucas had zero to do with Troy’s resignation. Lucas has zero to do with anything at City Hall. Until he gets some serious therapy to resolve his mommy issues and deal with making big-boy decisions, a certain Fourth District Councilperson is calling the shots and telling Quinton every move to make. Hint: it’s not Eric Bunch. Quinton epitomizes the weak-mayor form of government.
DeleteOne thing we know for sure, the first qualification for the next City Manager is a brown skin, that trumps any minor details like qualifications or experience.
ReplyDeleteClear the entire fucking lot and shit-can every last one of these incompetent fools.
ReplyDeleteLucas. Don't be putting assistant city manager Kerrie Tyndall in this job slot please.
ReplyDeleteRepeat: Department heads you’re next. Find other employment now on your own before you get canned. That especially means the legal and finance folks. Our economy is booming move along on your own accord because you WILL be replaced. Good luck.
