TKC BLOG COMMUNITY QUESTION: HOW SHOULD KANSAS CITY REMEMBER 9/11?!?
An open question for our blog community that, hopefully, offers insight into many alternative perspectives that are often silenced in the local discourse.
If we offend, forgive us but after 18 years 9/11 tributes pretty much follow the same script. They're tearjerkers, tragic cancer stories, patriotic justification of war, indignant advocacy for peace and, of course, conspiracy theories along with a few other crackpot notes . . .
Without telling anybody how to grieve . . . We acknowledge this is a historical milestone in American history that deserves consideration.
And so we ask . . .
WHAT'S THE BEST WAY FOR KANSAS CITY TO REMEMBER 9/11???
There's no right answer but instead we hope more thoughtful commenters will offer their insights, rituals and perspective as the impact of the tragedy is different in the Heartland but also relevant given that more cynical souls scoff at KCMO homicide memorials which often hit closer to home and a mere blocks away from residents
Accordingly, here's a bit of info on how locals are commemorating the tragedy today:
KCTV5: List of events happening around KC to remember September 11th
KSHB: Overland Park hosting ceremony honoring 18th anniversary of 9/11 attacks
Fox4: Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives 18 years ago at the World Trade Center on September 11. These are their names.
You decide . . .
