Mission Gateway Comeback Construction Or Fake News Promoting Dirt Push?!?!

There is no flagship tenant, the scheme to create luxury real estate and high-end ice cream shops in a working-class enclave hasn't garnered a generous lender . . . Meanwhile, developers have seen push back for attempting to clandestinely pass the tab on to JoCo taxpayers.

Here's the TV news taking a photo of glorified gardening . . .

Construction on long-stalled Mission Gateway project underway

MISSION, KS (KCTV) -- After years of frustration and delays, construction is back on at the site of the old Mission Mall. The site near Shawnee Mission Parkway and Roe Avenue has been a work in progress for 14 years. Since 2005, there have been proposals to make the property a Walmart, an apartment building and an aquarium.

  1. That headline is so old it's turning yellow. I wonder how much revenue the Mission Mall would have generated had it not been torn down for this debacle.

  4. This story could have been posted any time in the last 15 years.

Problem is the residents here don't want anything there because they're scared of development. It's prime real estate but can't be developed because anytime an anchor tenant is announced the chimp out because it'll lead to more color'ds coming to shop. Not saying that's a bad concern, but it's just how it goes.

  5. ^^If Mission is concerned about the coloreds coming to shop, I have news for them.
Just drive up and down Johnson Drive and Martway. It is looking like Prospect annex.

  7. This "long-stalled project" has announced it was about to rise more times than Lazarus.
How many millions of Mission residents' tax dollars have already disappeared into thin air with fiasco?
Mission would make more money by planting a soy bean field.
When you're in a deep deep hole, please stop digging!

  8. Hahahaha. Even though I don't live there anymore, I still enjoy reading about that ongoing tire fire of a topic. They should have stopped being so uppity and just let a big box store move in. Not ideal, but at least the property would have been earning precious tax revenue instead of costing the locals $$ to sit vacant.

  9. Just more nothing from the city famous for trying to charge you with a driveway tax. If you compare Mission and Kansas City they both are really two peas in a pod. Both are always insanely looking for other ways to get more tax dollars from you while following every pie in the sky developers dreams that in the end costs the taxpayers.

  10. 10:56 - I disagree with your comment of it being prime real estate. Its a odd shaped sliver of land between 2 commuter roads, is a flood area, on a incline and surrounded by a declining neighborhood and horrible city of Mission. Their police stripped searched a soccer mom at the post office cause her kids put pebbles in a mail box. Mission is for people 75 to 95 years old. Its low income. The roads are horrible. If Target wasn't in mission then then would charge residents a driveway use tax or tax churches on weekly attendance. PRIME REALE STATE IS IN BLUE VALLEY - South of 119th street. Have you ever been that far south? The developer has NO MONEY. It will fail

  11. Sadly, nobody will shop at this location. That's why Mission Mall closed. And it had wonderful covered parking! People want Town Plaza and the stuff out south. He may build it - but nobody will come. Its a failure. Even a small strip mall in Bentonville Arkansas would do much better!

  12. 2:50, was the woman who was supposedly strip searched at the post office your old lady? If not, then STFU about it and find something else to get your panties in a twist about.
