EEOC lawsuit accuses KU Medical Center of age discrimination
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) - A federal lawsuit filed Friday accuses the University of Kansas Medical Center of discharging an employee who reported age discrimination practices by a department head. The lawsuit against the Kansas City, Kansas-based medical center was filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
I hope Mr. Thomas wins a ton of money because age discrimination is rampant across the country. When people talk about increasing the retirement age, I think about how there are only so many jobs as a Walmart greeter to go around. Companies need to show they are hiring a diverse employee base, including those over a certain age.
ReplyDeleteAgree with 9:43 p.m. This discrimination is everywhere and it's very difficult to prove. Old folks (anyone with gray hair and wrinkles) are looked down on because they dampen the "vibe" of many businesses. Youngsters are a little cheaper and have fewer family responsibilities that takes them away from the almighty job.
ReplyDeleteSome sunzabitches play the greed game by disposing of older workers. The employers want them gone, because the younger workers' wages are lower, and their benefits plans cost less. The "mature" personnel are deemed as more likely to access expensive health services. Firms want to avoid the risks of having to pay large sums for major surgeries, or, a prolonged treatment(s) of a disease(s). Higher payouts and more frequent accessing for these medical services is statistically tied to advancing age.
