Kansas Republican drops Senate bid to primary Rep. Steve Watkins

Kansas Republican Jake LaTurner is cutting short his campaign for Senate to run a primary challenge against freshman Rep. Steve Watkins instead. LaTurner, the state treasurer, announced the decision in a statement Wednesday that made no mention of Watkins, though he said the district's residents "deserve a solid conservative fighter they can count on."

Comments

  1. LaTurner is a fine man, and I wish him well in any election he enters. He is a keeper.

  2. LaTurner sure used enough state funds to promote his family in TV ads over the last 2 months. He's as self promoting and crooked as Kobach.

  4. Eastern Kansas has some real winners "representing" them in Congress.
Watkins' dad's money and connections got him the job.
And Davids parachuted into Johnson County from nowhere and got elected without contributing in any way to her community.
    Both stealth mystery candidates.
And then, of course, on the other side of the state line there's that paragon of integrity and leadership, Rev. Cleaver.
Not too hard to see why the KC metro is fly-over country when it comes to clout in D.C.

  5. 7:23 makes some valid points. This fellow in the article is a political fart in a whirl wind. Damn jayhawker.

  6. He has failed the disabled community by cutting a deal with 5th 3rd bank one of the worst in the nation in customer service to deal with a vulnerable population and got a big ass donation. Screw the disabled he just wants to be elected to belly up to the trough to suck up some money. He has failed children, you know those zygotes who stupidly got born in Kansas, with his screwing up of the Able saving plan.

  7. When is he paying back Kansas for all those TV ads casting his wife and kids to promote themselves, errr, the American Century investment fund?

Using public funds to introduce yourself in a defacto campaign ad proves he is ethically not worthy to represent anyone in Kansas. In fact, he should leave his job as state treasurer for his wasteful and shameless spending.
