KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A 54-year-old man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for his role in a 2017 robbery that lead to the shooting of Independence officer Thomas Wagstaff. Donald Nussbaum pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree robbery and armed criminal action in July.

TOPEKA, Kan. - A 40-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly attacking another person with a hatchet on Sunday, Sept. 15. Winfred Devine Diamond-Cox was booked into the Shawnee Co. jail on a battery count, the Topeka Police Department told WIBW-TV. The attack happened around 11 p.m.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Independence police on Monday identified the man shot and killed last week by a Jackson County sheriff's deputy during an arrest. Allen Cates, 29, of Independence, was killed in the shooting, police spokesman Officer John Syme said.
