Kansas City Thankfully Forgets Disney Legacy

Here's another look at an idea that WON'T DIE DESPITE LACK OF INTEREST . . . Reality Check: It's really no tragedy that KCMO doesn't offer tribute to Nazi-sympathizer Walt Disney despite his local roots.

If the namesake of a MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR CORPORATION can't finance its own PR, local taxpayers and donors shouldn't be expected to pick up the slack.

Here's "public" TV tribute which imagines otherwise . . .

Why Doesn't Walt Disney Have a Museum in KC?

Speeding up or down 31st Street at Forest Avenue, it's easy to miss the wall-sized mural, "Thank You, Walt Disney." That location was once the Laugh-O-Gram Studio, Disney's first professional film studio and apartment, which lasted for only one year in 1923. However, in the past 20 years or so, an organization called "Thank You, Walt Disney Inc."

Abigail Disney recently talked about the real legacy.

Poverty wages - what all rich men have in common.

Poor working conditions - because of the war against union.

Excessive CEO salary - made possible by all of the money they saved on wages.

Walt Disney's greatest invention was the myth of Walt Disney.

  4. Bryon,

Excessive CEO salary was made possible by all the tourists patronizing the theme parks that Walt Disney had the vision for and spent his own money building. It's called capitalism. Look it up.

  5. Walt Disney was famously appalled that an East Indian man was a receptionist at his early California studio. He thought the man was black, and demanded he be fired, screaming "Get that n***** out of here!"

    Wonderful Disney, Wonderful Day! :)

  6. And Henry Ford kept an autographed portrait of Adolph Hitler on his desk until 1941, but nobody complains about a Ford Plant being in the Metro.

But then none of us expect consistency from "keyboard warriors", do we?

  7. Butch Rigby is the biggest crook and liar in killa shitty, he’s spent all the money he’s received for the building on his own personal projects, that’s why nothing has happened in over twenty years to that building. And as usual, he’s expecting everybody else to pay for it.

  9. As long as those "backers" don't want a dime of taxpayer money, go for it. Taxpayers are on the hook for way too much crazy shit these days (18th and Vine - wherever that is, art festivals, etc). How about more Police and pothole repair?? Nope, gotta subsidize entertainment.
