Mid-Continent Public Library's biannual Food for Fines program will run next Monday through Sunday. During the weeklong initiative, customers at all library branches can donate nonperishable food items in place of money to pay off overdue fine or replacement card charges.Customers with no fines or fees can also donate to "pay it forward" toward another patrons' fees, and food will be given to charitable organizations across the metro area.

The university said it is the largest award for rural medicine in the school's history.
