KANSAS CITY STAR FACT CHECK: JOCO WILL NEVER VOTE FOR KANSAS CITY BI-STATE AS LONG AS E-TAX PERSISTS!!!

Dave Helling is taking notes from City Hall and pretending that he's an insider . . . This report isn't just out of the loop, it's unlikely and doesn't really show much understanding of the municipal landscape or the current voter climate. If a b-state Royals tax ever passes we will write Mr. Helling a quick love note as he marches toward retirement without much regard for keeping readers informed about the real challenges which confront the chattering classes.

Checkit:

Could a citizen petition force a vote on a bistate tax for a new Royals stadium?

Here are a couple possible sites downtown should the Royals look to relocate. The ground beneath Kansas City's endless stadium conversation is shifting. Anyone who loves the idea of taxpayer subsidies for baseball and football - or anyone who hates them - should start paying close attention to the temblors..

Comments

  1. The precedent - Union Station - is entirely different than a baseball stadium. Union Station is a non-profit, a structure that was in danger of being lost, and there is little economic benefit for the surrounding area when it was built. It needed public funding to survive. The entire city agreed to share the burden of preserving the building.

A baseball stadium would have an immediate impact on downtown and the surrounding businesses. Development would concentrate in the area. Downtown will pull more entertainment dollars from the surrounding areas. There is no talk about the KC being in danger of losing the Royals. KS taxpayers are not going to pay for this beyond buying a lot of tickets to games, its businesses buying boxes, and frequenting the businesses around the stadium.

  2. West Side of State Line9/9/19, 8:24 AM

If JoCo is paying for it...put it in JoCo. The west side of 435 and State Line looks great. Otherwise - Fuck a bistate tax. I have no desire to pay for more KCMO fuck ups at city hall or at the county. I would rather loose the team to OK City or Omaha. Those retards lead by Quin and Frank are not to be trusted by anyone in JoCo. They fucked up KCMO enough.

If its truly bi-state...then put the next crown jewel on the KS side.

  3. I live in KC I wouldn’t vote for any new or existing tax

  4. Actually JoCo will NEVER vote for another bi-state tax as long as people in Jackson County and KCMO insist on electing incompetent clowns who couldn't run a one-car garage, allow themselves to constantly be bamboozled by consultants and "developers", pour endless amounts of tax money into black holes like the P&L District, and ignore the most basics of county and municipal services like assessing property taxes, crime, and infrastructure.
The elected officials in JoCo are not about to ruing their reputations by rolling around in the gutter with these incompetents and work to convince their constituents to throw away their money.
    Behavior has consequences.
    And so does performance.
    At least in JoCo.

  5. Only support this idea if the defeat of a downtown stadium in this vote means the end of this ridiculous idea forever - in other words, "put up or shut up time".

  6. "We’ll start with Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas, whose pre-election rejection of a downtown baseball stadium was unequivocal. He compared a downtown stadium to a Maserati. It was a read-my-lips, no-new-taxes moment.

Now, Lucas is driving a different car."

That summarizes the whole story pretty well. Trust no one. And strive to fuck others before they fuck you. The Kansas City way.

  7. We have a Mayor who sat around yesterday tweeting the chiefs game while people are getting shot, mugged, and killed.

One idiot called him an exemplary public servant.

LOL The Bullshit Renaissance is complete.

  8. ^^Ugh huh. People are getting shot everywhere shit-for-brains. There's nothing anyone can do about. Remember? Thoughts and prayers are it. Don't pretend you care.

  9. JOCO is NEVER going to pay for this. It would lose like 85%-15%

These downtown locations are terrible and as someone who has wanted downtown baseball I'd rather they just stay where they are now than put on the east side.

The parking south Crown Center sort of near the cemetary would be perfect, but it either way the stadium needs to be downtown, not this east side bullshit. Think how shitty it would be the Sprint Center would have been on the east side. What a waste

  10. They tried this bullshit once before and it failed badly.

Let the Royals go to Vegas be the best thing ever happened to this town in a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  11. ^^Except they're never going to Vegas and you no idea what you're talking about. Weird.

    ReplyDelete
  12. OMG we are such a big city. It's like having to drive all the way from Boston or Philly just to see a Yankees or Mets game here in KCMO.

    ReplyDelete
  13. ^^Huh? You make no sense. Write better retard!

  14. The bi state Union Station tax passed in Jo Co because white suburban women thought it was a "good thing" even though it was ghastly expensive. Does anyone think that they are going to involuntarily pay for a sports team?

  15. 8:17 nails it. The city has a perfectly sufficient stadium as is. JoCo taxpayers are not nearly as willy nilly to spend unnecessary funds as the people in Killa City.
