Culture war meets with the Kansas City culinary scene in this unsavory discussion on the sordid topic of race.
Credit to Fox4 for their FIRST reporting an upstart local foodie effort with an upbeat feature story.
The Kansas City Star blogs the content today only to add their own spin. Here's the crux of their argument:
"Sadly and somewhat predictably, the mere existence of Black Restaurant Week has prompted reflexive complaints about racism. as critics in search of a cause have cried foul, suggesting that somehow the effort to showcase the culture and heritage of these local businesses is an affront to us all.
"Simply referencing race does not equate to racism.
"Kansas City does a fine job of celebrating an array of ethnic cultures."
And in that last line the newspaper shows its fundamental and elitist ignorance.
ETHNIC CULTURES ARE NOT STRICTLY RACE-BASED!!!
A few quick examples:
Afro-Mexicans are one of many reasons why so many Westsiders and Northeast denizens have really curly hair when its humid outside.
The difference between Sicilians and Italians is HUGE even though there's only a 9.9-mile division between the island and the mainland.
And never Pho-get about the French Vietnamese who inspired a culinary tradition that's still alive in many great local restaurants.
To be fair, there's room for debate here given that Prez Obama was the nation's first Black President even though his mom was white . . . And, sadly, silly racial categorizations are where this kind of event moniker lead us wherein even progressives seem to quizzically reference the "one-drop" rule in the affirmative. Brief aside to further blow-up country bumpkin small-town newspaper misconceptions of race and culture . . . Many residents in East Jackson, OHIO were raised to identify as black despite the fact that they pretty much look white. And then stupid purist considerations of race totally go off the rails when outsiders attempt to understand WTF Louisiana Creole people are saying.
Whilst we can agree that urban food is some of the very best in KC, it's undeniable that this is also one of very few mainstream racially tagged local events . . . Rather than attempt to address the complexity of these considerations, irresponsible newspaper pundits retreat into stand-offish partisan hackery and reinforce divisions instead of attempting to bring info and insight to their last remaining subscribers.
You decide . . .
another million dollars for the 18th & vine district might solve this argument.
ReplyDeleteIs. Black Restaurant Week when the coloreds descend on good restaurants and claim racial discrimination do they can get free stuff?
ReplyDeleteNo, that was thursday. And today. And tomorrow.
DeleteJust about the time you think the Star couldn't get any sillier or more irrelevant, they always top their last effort.
ReplyDeleteWith all the major issues confronting the country and the metro, the Star insists on continuing to be obsessed with the minutia of their social justice agenda and somehow tries to related any and every "issue" to the same narrative.
Who cares about "Black Restaurant Month"?
If a business wants to limit its potential customers to just 12% of the population, they're certainly free to do so. You would think that most businesses who want a chance at success would try to appeal to the general population, but you can't drag everyone kicking and screaming to success.
When will the Star be pontificating about transgender restaurants?
It most certainly not be very long.
Pitiful.
Just thinking about Black hands preparing my food makes me want to do cartwheels ! Why, oh why didn't we have this before ?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSeparate but equal...the good old days. Let's not have another Black Wallstreet Massacre in our own backyard. Jim Crow is heading down the Big MO muddy waters. How many more lists do we need to make without making a turn for wider class differentiations. Order up, you get what you pay for. More gerrymandered districts on choke hold tight in 2020. And you wonder why little Johnny can't read...3rd, no 4th generation meth, crack, wet, black tar, coke baby. And we have not hit the poor kids yet. Ain't that America, home of The free, and hoodwinked bike lanes, filthy clogged gutters, salt desperately needed for snow days and winter is coming, clean the streets. For you and me. What was this all about, this rant? A decent sammich, a great meal served by someone that is usually in the back of the house, that now owns the house...order up. How do you want your steak?
ReplyDeleteThe real question here is, will the blacks finally tip now that this is for their own? Hey,look at it this way too. Maybe now there won't be so many videos of them on you tube fighting at a chuck e cheese.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't they have this during their month, February? It's balck month so have black restaurant week then. Have the Gay softball(?) world series in their month. Have mexican restaurant week in May. Have Christian restaurant week in December. Problem solved.
ReplyDeleteAnd @7:32 wins it by raising a REAL point. That should have been the subject of a star column that would have really been groundbreaking.
ReplyDeletevery few people want to eat at a black restaurant anyway, food is nasty, their building is nasty, and the people are nasty.
ReplyDeleteSo black restaurants can’t participate in the main restaurant week? And gay/lesbian players can’t play in a generic softball league? Nope. It has to be BLACK restaurant week or GAY softball league. Minorities can be their own worst enemies.
ReplyDeletegreat, a bunch of shut-ins from Frogville giving us their opinions about places they will never go. Sorry geezers, stick to Bob Evans and tapioca. It's all you know!
ReplyDeleteGood points Tony, but this is just KC Star grist for the "Hate Whitey" mill.
ReplyDeleteHere are the real reasons for this article.
This is a black run city.
The black politicians have exempted the KC Star from paying taxes and indeed, they (The KC Star) survive off of OUR taxes.
Black politicians get elected by hating whitey and saying so in order to get more blacks to vote.
The KC Star, on a regular basis, at the behest of those black politicians, reinforce and encourage the hatred of whitey with articles, that in turn, guarantee the continuation of the "Hate Whitey" status quo.
ReplyDeleteBlack people have been spoiled since LBJ's war on poverty and little do they know that just enslaved them even more, the idiots. Black people are like the problem child that's hard to love.
^^Ok pops, enough of the inter-webs. There's no tapioca for you today. If you can't be nice on the computer, you can't watch any Matlock. Come on, time for a diaper change.
ReplyDeleteChimpy! Stop talking to humans. Just entertain us, monkey!! Lol
DeleteHey 7:44 and 8:15 show on the doll where Grandpa touched you...
ReplyDeleteLet me be honest: I don't give a fuck what color or ethnicity you are, if your food's good I'm eating it. I'm not going to patronize anywhere that serves shit based on what color you are.
If the race haters and SJW fucktards that Tony lets bloviate on here don't like that, go fuck yourselves.
The first 7:44, not Chuck.
DeleteI, for one, go out of my way to avoid doing business with blacks or where large amounts of blacks flock to. It's clear that most of them dont have a grasp on basic personal hygeine, so how could they prepare my food without contaminating it? Stand up WHITE MAN and vote with your dollar! Be an example to other white men that have become lost and confused by the lefty media. Take your country back!
ReplyDelete^^^ Maybe you just stay in your trailer and do all of us a favor.
ReplyDeleteM'kay?
We don't need to roll of pennies and everyone would be happier if you stay on the outskirts of Sugar Creek. You'll be safe there.
Hey, black man with a fat white slut,
DeleteStay at 20th and Lydia or whatever. Please!!
Yeah, she's n*gger rich, now, huh?
DeleteWhen is White or Brown Restaurant Week?
ReplyDelete^^^ As soon as the City can get permission from the Coalition Of Black Churches to hold it.
ReplyDeleteI don’t like shitlins.
ReplyDeleteGotta agree with 8:29. Don't give these slags your money or support. Confine your dollars and time to white owned/operated business. Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteWould someone please have Chimpy neutered and get him a muzzle? Christ on a crutch....all the moron does is babble from his same pathetic arsenal of feeble insults (Matlock, trailers, tapioca, diapers). I’m guessing Chimpy is a negro or at least has sex with them. Does he not realize that most trailers in Frogville are much nicer than the shitty crackhouses where he gets gangbanged on the east side? Silly Chimpy....proof positive that evolution only went so far with his type. :(
ReplyDelete9:14 FTW
ReplyDeleteI'm seldom around blacks, and frankly avoid large groups of them. The chance for spontaneous violence is something that I do not wish upon my life to add "spice" as Millie the Kid prefers. That said, I'm a fan of black ethnic food. Just about everything listed by the Dad to Craig in Friday.
ReplyDeleteGreens, pintos, and corn muffins at cracker-assed Cracker Barrel.
ReplyDelete^^Your seldom out of the home Maude. Who are you fooling. Plus rolling your wheelchair around makes to tie tie. You usually need to nap for four hours.
ReplyDelete^^Ugh huh. Easy gramps. No more inter-webs for you! You've shit yourself again. Go take a nap. Because you can't control yourself, no Matlock either!
ReplyDelete^^^You are SO right! Weird.
ReplyDelete^^True that. This blog is full of smashed geezer skulls today. Always good to see!
ReplyDeleteRacism pure and simple. Let me know when white restaurant week begins. I know they will be safe.
ReplyDeleteDamn, am I going to have make a reservation to go to Popeyes?
