Jimmy C comes off as nothing but a geezer who's pissed off at the world. Like most present and former journalists - all of whom view themselves as crusading, social justice warriors - his whining is little more than a solution looking for a nonexistent problem.

He does make some good points, though, about how dirty money can become clean--kind of like indulgences in the Middle Ages.
ReplyDeleteWhat does an organization do when it accepts money from someone that it later finds out has a blemish on their record. What was the true source of the funds? What was the reason for giving the money? Does the organization have the ability to repay it after it's already been spent? Is giving it back the only way of moving forward? Is it possible to turn that money to something good? I don't pretend to know all of the facts about the people who gave the money or St. Anne's response but it's a complicated issue. I trust that the church and it's parishioners thought a lot about this (probably more than anyone else in the community) and made the right decision. Otherwise, I think you'd be seeing an exodus of members and support of St. Anne's.

The elder Coppinger for whom the track was named is a prince of a man and is likely heartbroken over his wayward kids. But don't let that get in the way of the Carriage Clubbers who need to maintain good and wholesome appearances.

ReplyDeleteIt still amazes me to see people defending payday lenders. These were people who had the financial means to make money legitimately but lacked the intelligence. creativity and savvy to do so. The lowest common denominator of our city's business community. The only way these knuckle draggers could afford their Indian Hills/Kansas City Country Club lifestyles was off the backs of the only people in our society they were smarter than. Payday lending allowed a guy who owns a popular burger restaurant to afford a house on Ward Parkway, Pembroke educations for his children and a membership and Kansas City Country Club. Without payday lending that creep would be living a row house in Lee's Summit (closer to his beloved MU) struggling to make payroll like every other independent restauranter. Their names (and the names of others) should be dragged through the mud at every opportunity.

ReplyDeleteWhile he seems to have an ax to grind- my guess is he must have immense anger to be pointing fingers and judging.. surely others have done this to him and he knows no other way.

You can only hope forgiveness is an element of any faith Jimmy C subscribes to.
His hopes and dreams are different than mine. I waste no anger nor musings towards gossip and shenanigans he uneloquently scribes about.
To each their own... for Jimmy C... lets hope he gives up his keyboard and finds a hobby worthwhile and contributing to the good of humankind... lest his inner anger consume his soul... if he has one.
