Downtown baseball rumors take center stage at office summit - Kansas City Business Journal

Rumors and wishful thinking about a move by the Kansas City Royals into a new downtown baseball stadium have been at a low whisper for months, but they reached a fever pitch during Wednesday's Downtown Office Summit. Cushman & Wakefield's Suzanne Dimmel and CBRE's Gina Anderson presented a market overview to hundreds of commercial real estate professionals gathered for the summit.

  1. Dumbest idea ever.

  2. But still the Royals will, within five years, be moving to a brand-new Downtown Stadium, just off the "Strip" in Las Vegas!

  4. This is insane. You have one of the most beautiful baseball stadiums ever built and you want to abandon it

  6. Wouldn't even need it if Downtown was truly successful and paying for itself. Which of course it isn't in either case.

  7. I want a stadium downtown but putting it on the East side is fucking retarded and one of the only ways to get me to want it to stay where it is. It's needs to be centrally located downtown, like the sprint center.

All baseball stadiums have to face east so this stadium wouldn't have any sort of wow factor as it would overlook nothing except the Benton Blvd

  8. As is it is often held up along with Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles as one of the best examples of modernist stadium design.

So like everything else in KCMO we best destroy it and build a new one.

    LOL

  9. well, if the new owners of the Royals and all these business leaders want to pony up a billion dollars and pay for it 100% themselves, by all means!

But, we know that won't be the case. They'll create some shitty CID that none of us will even get the chance to vote for and build a stadium on the backs of the working class while the owners of the Royals and these business leaders laugh all the way to the bank with other people's money.

  10. It's happening. Done deal. It needs to happen. List your houses and move if it offends you so, but there's nothing you can do about it.

  11. ^^^ Hahaha why don't you fucking move sport. Back to Iowa or whatever hell hole you emerged out of.

New stadium belongs at 18th and Vine and it will double as a central station with all bike lanes leading into and out of it.

  13. My money is on the stadium being located some place in Berkley Riverfront Park. KC Port Authority, KCMO, and the whole gang are on board. It will driver development East (but far enough North that it will evade the foot traffic). Columbus Park area will boom along with the east side of the inner loop. Curious how they will handle the smell from North of the River industrial and the train tracks.

  14. Overburdened KCMO taxpayers will never fund this $1.5 Billion debacle!!!

  15. I am sure that developers, real estate brokers, and construction companies would unanimously endorse the idea of a downtown stadium. They would probably endorse the plan for three stadiums --or four-- make it five! If you haven't travelled around the East Side lately, I suggest a little day trip. Kansas City has neglected this population for too long. The residents should be carrying torches and pitchforks given the crime, broken infrastructure, lack of code enforcement, and just general "let them eat cake" attitude. It borders on criminal conduct. I live in JoCo and vote conservative Republican. A trip over there a couple of months ago made me so sad and angry. Kansas City has neglected and abused this population horribly, and it just has to stop. A stadium is not the answer.
