KC Biz Journal: Truman Medical Center techs, lab workers file unfair labor practice charge

Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Healthcare Missouri, the group representing the workers, alleges that Truman's "management is escalating their harassment and intimidation of workers as they engage in their federally protected right to organize a union."
"After a worker engaged in protected concerted activities, discipline was placed in her record as a result of her participation in and speaking to the media regarding her protected concerted activities," according to the charge filed with the National Labor Relations Board. "These actions were anti-union and intimidating to the workers in violation of their Section 7 and 8 rights."
Truman Medical responded with an email statement: "TMC works well with all unions on site. We do not stand in the way of unions. We DO believe that workers should be able to vote on whether they want a union, and fully believe in the process allowing for a secret ballot vote, ensuring our employees’ choices will remain private. TMC’s goal is always to provide excellent patient care and be an Employer of Choice, with attractive wages and benefits."

They should have their union and hopefully this will improve things. It might be a decent teaching facility but for patients is definitely last chance care for people without better options. Good luck!

ReplyDeleteStep 1: Find a product that people love… then make a slightly better version of it, and price it WAY BELOW your cost so that you lose money on every unit sold.
Step 2: Create a ridiculous mission statement. It doesn’t matter what you’re selling– your real mission is things like consciousness, happiness, and community. And use the word ‘technology’ a lot. No matter what you’re producing, always pretend that you’re a tech company.
Step 3: Raise money from investors at an obscene valuation on the basis that you’re a visionary tech company. Don’t bother forecasting profits and creating conservative pro-forma statements, from which investors can derive a sensible valuation of your business. Instead, let the investors imagine how profitable your company can eventually become.
Step 4: At a minimum, double your losses every year. And, as you continue to burn through investor capital, raise even more money at progressively higher valuations.
Step 5: At the peak of the stock market bubble, take your company public at twice your last valuation. Reward these gullible investors with limited voting rights, and consolidate your power over the company as you steer it towards greater and greater losses while showering yourself with gigantic compensation packages.
Congratulations your now a billionaire and can quit your lousy job.

In 1984 DST Systems Inc's employees tried to unionize under the United Office Workers. It was voted down. Most of the employees who lobbied for it and stood outside with signs and handed out flyers with the top executives salaries were fired. Except Ginny Spero, as she came from a connected Mob family and could have easily had the top execs killed ot car bombed if they had fired her.

ReplyDeleteIt is the SEIU union. Worst union in the history of unions. Represent jobs where the necessary qualifications are 1) you smoke, 2) you're still breathing, 3) You probably show up for work, 4) You can be replaced easily. 5) They take your union dues directly out of your paycheck.
