TKC MUST READ!!! CONTRADICTION: KCPD CHIEF ARGUES THAT POLICE DON'T WANT TO TAKE GUNS AWAY AMID POLICY PUSH FOR 2ND AMENDMENT CRACKDOWN!!!

Today the Kansas City top cop joins the cacophony of voices demanding stricter gun control.

Even worse . . .

THE GUN TRAINING REGULATION ADVOCATED BY THE KCPD CHIEF IS MORE STRINGENT THAN ANY 2ND AMENDMENT REGULATION CURRENTLY UNDER CONSIDERATION!!!

At the federal level, lawmakers are struggling to impose meager background checks and "red flag" laws . . . The training mandate advocated by the Chief would place Constitutional rights in the hands of a state-sanctioned arbiter who would have final say over the 2nd Amendment rights which the framers believed were endowed by the Creator . . . Basically turning a constitutional right into a privilege regulated by the State like driving . . . And we all know how well the DMV works.

Respectfully, we disagree with the Chief of Police . . .

THE 2ND AMENDMENT IS NOT A PRIVILEGE, IT'S A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT AND THE CHIEF'S BLOG POST DEMONSTRATES HE'S CLEARLY ON THE SIDE OF 'GUN GRABBERS' WHETHER HE LIKES IT, ADMITS IT OR NOT!!!

To be fair, the post expresses an opinion that's currently en vogue as fear has inspired millions of Americans to offer a sacrifice of essential liberty for the illusion of a little bit of safety.

KCPD Chief: How does public policy affect public safety?

Money line and what we believe is the Chief's main point highlighted in red:

"The common refrain that usually accompanies calls for any kind of gun regulation is, “They want to take our guns away.” The Kansas City Missouri Police Department has no interest whatsoever in taking guns away that are legally possessed by residents. The law that applies to carrying a firearm for hunting – training and permitting requirements – is the same kind of law that should be used for possessing firearms, period. Law enforcement officers in Missouri currently have limited tools to prevent violence from occurring by taking guns out of the hands of those who want to harm others.

"Since Jan. 1, 2008, a total of 1,346 people in Kansas City, Mo., have been murdered, the vast majority by firearms. That is a horrific loss of life in one decade. Imagine if we had a single incident with that many people killed at once in Kansas City. What would the reactions be? Would there be calls for some kind of immediate policy change so that could never happen again?

"Public policy can provide law enforcement with more tools to combat violent crime, such as an effective corrections system, stricter laws, and grants/funding for more officers and equipment. Regardless of the gun laws, of which there are currently many, they are ineffective without a certainty of punishment. Certainty of punishment is more important than severity in the prevention of gun violence.

"As I outlined at the beginning of this blog, the members of the Kansas City Missouri Police Department are doing everything in our power to curb violent crime. But those in the halls of the legislature can affect public safety – for good or bad – at a much broader level. Something has to change. We hope the frustration our community is feeling about violent crime will turn into the action that is needed to change public policy to protect the people of Kansas City."

  1. Gotta agree with the Chief here. He has better information than anyone about the level of violence on local streets and he understand that his hands are tied under the current laws.

    1. If we give up our guns but the crime rate doesn't go down. Can we have them back?

    2. ^^^^ NOPE.

Look at places like Chicago and DC. They have the strictest gun control in the nation but they're also the most violent.

  9. "Since Jan. 1, 2008, a total of 1,346 people in Kansas City, Mo., have been murdered“ not all of these were from guns but i digress, my point is that between 2008 and 2011 before sLIE took over there were around 200 murders, since sLIE has been in charge there have been over 1100 murders, petersucker started in 2011 by the way. I don’t think this is a coincidence.

  12. ^^^^ 100%

The laws need to be changed, we're not dealing with muskets in the colonial era. There needs to be a real conversation about how we keep the nation safe.

  13. I didn’t vote for the Chief, but the Q man.

    Sounds like insubordination.

  14. Sort of disingenuous of the Chief to try to imply that the Conservation Department's "Hunters Safety Course" and their "State Hunting Permit" are somehow tied to firearms, you have to have those for hunting on Public Land with any legal hunting instrument, firearm, bow, crossbow, or atlatl.

He however, is calling for some sort of State Firearms Permit, the same thing that has failed so miserably for decades in Illinois.

Shame he isn't familiar with State Regulations of Law Enforcement records in other States, maybe he should read up.

Oh, and I don't personally own or use any firearms, nor do I hunt any longer, but have no problem with anyone doing so - legally.

  15. Hunter safety training required only if born after January 1 1967

  16. Just another excuse by an ineffective organization more concerned with salaries and pensions than public safety.

  17. I want to take a look at the chapter of his training manual that trains people to not commit murder. Should be good for a laugh.

  18. The Chief has to blame something other than poor police work. They could go out and round up 100 felons in one night but then that would require work and put them in danger. Usually it is better to sit in an air conditioned car and play around on your phone. Maybe write a few speeding tickets to help pay your salary.
