TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! WEEKEND DEADLY DOWNTOWN DOUBLE SHOOTING INSPIRES KANSAS CITY TO RETHINK FAILED 'ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT' STRATEGY!!!
A truism that our blog community has touted for years is finally making progress amid the latest weekend spate of violence.
To wit . . .
TKC BLOG COMMUNITY CONFIRMED!!! KANSAS CITY ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICTS ARE DANGEROUS & COSTLY DISTRACTIONS THAT MUST BE RECONSIDERED!!!
Here's the breakdown . . .
Security Crackdown Killed Westport
A couple of years ago an off-duty cop was shot & killed and the place hasn't been the same since. This Summer a "street vacation" chased most of the patrons away and the weekend crackdown has slowed biz by all accounts along with setting a dangerous public road precedent.
18th & Vine Is A Pricey Shooting Gallery
There has been 3 homicides over the past year in the 18th & Vine District. The number of shootings are too many to count. Meanwhile, 100-MILLION worth of taxpayer subsidy since the 90s proves that this party place has FAILED over the course of a generation.
Broke Northland Zona Rosa Almost Kaput
The Entertainment district problems goes deeper than just violence . . .
Northland Zona Rosa teetering on the verge of bankruptcy and junk bond FAIL proves the strategy of backing big party places is faulty even in the nicest of neighborhoods and middle-class clientele.
Violent Teen Flash Mobs Ruined The Plaza
Of course we know the Plaza started the KCMO entertainment district trending decline. Sure, violent teen flash mobs garnered a lot of publicity but let's not discount the demolition of historic buildings, encroachment of tall buildings and the Internets basically killing the retail biz.
For these reasons and so many more . . . Insiders, residents and a great many voters believe that it's time for KCMO to rethink entertainment districts and focus more work on neighborhoods.
