TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! TAX WEARY KANSAS CITY PUSHES BACK AGAINST POLLING FOR PUBLIC SAFETY CASH!!!

The next election is on the horizon and, as always, there's an effort to increase taxes in this typically low turnout contest.

Here's the word . . .

Kansas City Insider: "THIS week telephone surveys started for the renewal of the KCMO fire safety sales tax. THEY want and increase from 1/4 cent to 1/2 cent."

Accordingly . . .

EARLY RETURNS REVEAL KANSAS CITY VOTERS HAVE BECOME FRUSTRATED WITH RISING LEVELS OF TAXATION!!!

Translation . . .

Locals burdened by a litany of tax increases don't seem enthusiastic about adding to their money problems and have been telling both real life and robot pollsters as much. One recent poll revealed that likely voters would reject any upcoming levy proposal. This, in turn, has worried elected officials who initially believed this tax spike would be an easy sell. To be fair, it's still likely this tax uptick will meet with voter approval but now more cash on "community outreach" is demanded in order to convince neighborhoods already confronting rising property taxes and one of the highest sales tax rates in the nation.

In downtown the sales tax rate is far above 10% and is inching toward 12. That's the "best in the Midwest" and it means that buying anything inside the loop is more expensive than any other place within hundreds of miles. KC will never be able to build a viable downtown if the taxes keep rising year after year.

Think about it.

Shh! Don't tell anybody about the ponzi scheme until we all get our payoffs. The real estate is worth million and the streetcar will connect it. Keep eating!

And this is the true legacy left by Sylvester James and Jolie Justus.
Their nefarious waste of Tax money and their constant ignoring of public wishes (as set forth in voting) have left a stench on City Government that will make it extremely difficult to obtain approval for even desirable initiatives for years.

Mayor Lucas has to recognize the damage his predecessor caused and speak frankly and publicly about it if he has any hope of restoring any useful level of trust from the citizens.

This is going to be a difficult task for the Mayor, since he is still saddled with six Council Members who were part of the previous tainted Administration and one new member who has been the leader of an organization that has wasted scandalous amounts of tax money to no good purpose. (Yes, "Landslide", I mean you!)

I hope Mayor Lucas is up to the task.

So deathly silence from residents is the response as hundreds of millions of tax dollars blown on consultants, THE streetcar, arts festivals, fake nonprofits, grifters, 18th and Vine, and all the rest of the nonsense pours out the door at 12th and Oak.
But public safety is the issue that gets the push-back?
Only in KCMO.
The city that never sleeps.
How upside-down can priorities be?

Mayor Quinton Lucas should demand state audits of all KC operations. To include the Port Authority.
Parallel audits should be done by a national accounting firm without ties to KC chamber.
Soon mayor Q will own all the corruption in Killa City.

That should include the Public Safety Sales Tax, too; not just the Fire Tax. The Combat tax, the this/that tax. All of it should be done away with. We are clearly not getting what we’re paying for.

I got one of those calls and said HELL NO to any and all sales tax increases no matter what it is for. I am at the limit. I avoid doing any buying of anything. except groceries within the confines of KCMO. I rarely eat in restaurants anymore, sales tax and tip add an extra 25-#30% to the bill. KCMO taxpayers are maxed out.

Good, it's a waste of $$$$.

The KC public safety tax was first approved by voters in 2002. It was renewed and increased in 2013. New stations were built. New helicopters and equipment purchased. A new radio system given to officers and fire fighters. Please explain why they need more money?

^^^They gave most of the money to Daryl Forte and John Modest Miles. Whatever was left over went to buildings.
