TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY WEED REFORM!!! COUNCIL CONSIDERS MORE MARIJUANA WITHOUT PENALTY!!!
A new ordinance updates the Kansas City muni-code to not only acknowledge the advancement of medical marijuana in Missouri but also eliminate the hotly debated $25 fine for small timer weed users.
To wit . . .
NEW KANSAS CITY MARIJUANA LEGISLATION WOULD BASICALLY ALLOW LEGAL POSSESSION OF UP TO 99 GRAMS!!! THAT'S NEARLY A QUARTER POUND OF POT!!!
Ordinance #190702 sponsored by 3rd District At-Large Councilman Brandon Ellington makes relevant changes to the local rules which previously set the threshold for marijuana fines at 35 grams wherein suspects would confront a $25 fine and a mark against their legal record if they admitted guilt.
This change eliminates the newish rule that was met with skepticism by many marijuana advocates and instead focuses on offenders carrying a lot of weed weight with a penalty that starts at $500 along with other legal consequences. Let's also consider that the Jackson County prosecutor has noted her office isn't going to bring any strictly weed cases against small-timers over the objections of police.
And so, apropos for Friday, slowly but surely KCMO continues its journey toward weed decriminalization for personal use . . . Very much like the rest of the nation.
