TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY WEED REFORM!!! COUNCIL CONSIDERS MORE MARIJUANA WITHOUT PENALTY!!!

A new ordinance updates the Kansas City muni-code to not only acknowledge the advancement of medical marijuana in Missouri but also eliminate the hotly debated $25 fine for small timer weed users.

To wit . . .

NEW KANSAS CITY MARIJUANA LEGISLATION WOULD BASICALLY ALLOW LEGAL POSSESSION OF UP TO 99 GRAMS!!! THAT'S NEARLY A QUARTER POUND OF POT!!!

Ordinance #190702 sponsored by 3rd District At-Large Councilman Brandon Ellington makes relevant changes to the local rules which previously set the threshold for marijuana fines at 35 grams wherein suspects would confront a $25 fine and a mark against their legal record if they admitted guilt.

This change eliminates the newish rule that was met with skepticism by many marijuana advocates and instead focuses on offenders carrying a lot of weed weight with a penalty that starts at $500 along with other legal consequences. Let's also consider that the Jackson County prosecutor has noted her office isn't going to bring any strictly weed cases against small-timers over the objections of police.

And so, apropos for Friday, slowly but surely KCMO continues its journey toward weed decriminalization for personal use . . . Very much like the rest of the nation.

Developing . . .

Legal marijuana is about the only real economic stimulus Kansas City has to look forward to in the next few years.

A lot of people forget that drug money was responsible for many of the bailout from the housing crisis. This isn't any different, if KC really wants to grow the east crossroads and midtown, legalization of marijuana has more potential than more coffee shops or coworking spaces.

Whatever you're smoking. I'd like to try some. You forgot to mention all of the crime that goes with the drug trade. Legal or not.

That kind of negates your profit motive darling.

LEGALIZE IT!

So all you have to do is get a document that says you're going to get a medical card and you can avoid a fine? The application should be a lot more popular after this.

Just what we need more people driving around high on pot

It's people like 9:09 that fall victim to the propaganda they are pushing on everyone with the legalization of marijuana. It's so obvious what is going on but most people can't see it. Really sad and very scary.

It's people like 10:05 that fall victim to the propaganda the prohibitionists are (and have been for decades) pushing on everyone. It's so obvious cannabis should be legal, but apparently some people can't see it. Really sad and scary that people remain ignorant for generations.

Just like the river boat casinos were going to save the schools with endless revenue .

The mouth breathers that think it will increase crime and lead to more DUI incidents need look no further than our neighbors to the West; Colorado. There are other reasons the enconomy there has been a boom for the last several years but the cannabis industry has been a major player in economic development. Educate yourself on the facts of the issue. As has been stated it's the last real cash crop and the tipping point has already been reached, either get onboard with the economic stimulus or get left behind.

Weed being legal actually hurts black communities because they can no longer plea down to weed offenses.

For example, say Reggie gets stopped by police but he tries to flee because he has a little bit of cocaine and weed on him. Police catch him and he's charged with resisting arrest, possession of coke, and possession of weed. Prosecution offers a plea for just the possession of weed but he gets the max punishment, which is still lower than resisting arrest and coke possession.

With legal weed that option is now off the table and Reggie will have to face the tougher charges of coke and resisting arrest. Most people in jail for weed were arrested for something else and plead down to weed possession since they had it at the time of the crime. This is what's called an unintended consequence

Fill all the offices at 12th and Oak with smoke and hope that the clowns who occupy them mellow out and slow down spending your money.
Fill out an application Quinton!
Make sure you include all the appropriate names!

Increasing the weight limit is going to help keep the murderous black thugs from going to jail and keep it off their record, they forgot that it won’t change their murder convictions! Hahahahaha!

Ellington is an idiot.

As the father of a kid who started smoking pot when he was 12 I can attest to the fact first hand the crap will destroy your brain. He was a great athlete, intelligent, good looking and turned into a dropout with no social skills and no future all my hopes and dreams for him are now gone and I’m stuck with a slug in my basement just to save him from being under a bridge
