TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! EMBATTLED KANSAS CITY 18TH & VINE DISTRICT DEMANDS ANOTHER MILLION BUCKS!!!

Flashback for Friday and remember that the 18th & Vine District has garnered more than $100-MILLION worth of subsidy since the 90s yet has FAILED to develop a sustainable profit model.

More importantly, in recent years we've seen an uptick in gunfire and deadly violence in this urban core party place.

There have been three murders in the past year in the 18th & Vine District. If this happened in any other KCMO entertainment venue there would be far greater public outrage and attention. Instead, from both urban core leaders & City Hall there's a continued demand to throw away good money after bad.

Here's the latest "suggestion" placed quietly into a "housing" committee to avoid much attention and create the illusion that propping up this venue helps "access" for local residents . . .

Resolution #190644
: Accepting the recommendation of the Central City Economic Development Tax Board to fund the economic development project proposed by UA KC EVE, LLC and 18th and Vine Redevelopment Corporation, generally located within the 2000 blocks of Woodland and Vine Streets in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri in the amount of $1,205,231.00 and authorizing the City Manager to negotiate a Funding Agreement for that purpose.

And so we ask our blog community . . .

HOW CAN NEW MAYOR & COUNCIL ENCOURAGE BETTER RESULTS FROM 18TH & VINE WITHOUT WASTING ANOTHER MILLION BUCKS?!?

You decide . . .

  1. If Quinton votes for this, he's worthless. Nothing less than extortion and robbery.

  2. Pu a city jail at 18th Vine.

    1. Put a jail @ 18th & Vine?

I hope you know that's not a horrible idea and would actually be beneficial.

A new jail would give us an excuse to finally revive the workhouse castle with plenty of space to build a facility around it. Guards, visitors and administrators would need a place to eat lunch so the surrounding venues would get plenty of business.

The more industrious personnel might even buy a place nearby and contribute to the local population.

More police and security guards in the area would even help to make the neighborhood safer.

There's even a punitive effect. The sound of jazz in the 18th & Vine district might haunt inmates and remind them all the fun they're missing so the they will not return again.

A simple comment @11:45 but a lot of opportunities to think creatively that work a lot better than handing over $1,000,000 to the same group of crooks who have wasted so much money so far.

      Now take your meds.

  3. I want to know how much in private funds the district has raised?

    1. ^^^ Good question!

Our current mayor is a resident of this district so I wonder if he should recuse himself.

Asking some good question about the financial plan for this district would be even better.

  4. Give the whole District six months to start showing itself to be self-supporting or seize all assets there via "eminent Domain" and peddle off the Baseball and Jazz memorabilia.

That sale should raise at least $500.00, and then demolition of all buildings will gain free space for a new Jail and about sixteen circles of razor wire around it.

  5. No, we need the money for bike lanes.

  6. Escalades cost more than they used and definitely more than people think.

  7. 18th and Vine is and never will be a destination. Move the museums to union station. Rezone the area to residential and build new houses

  8. Let these grifters "earn" the million $25,000 at a time by turning in murder supects to the police.
At least then the city might be accomplishing SOMETHING.
Where do all these millions of dollars come from in a city that never has any money for addressing issues and providing services that residents actually need?
    It never changes.

  9. The mayor is a castrated pussy if he falls for this. That area is a money-sucking shithole that contributes nothing but corpses to KC. As others have suggested, level it and use the space for something useful.

  10. Put a moat around it and have one big monkey island .

  12. 8/16/19, 12:27 PM has a good idea in moving the museums to Union Station. 18th & Vine will never be on my destination list of places to go or take visitors to. Not in a million years. I like jazz but can hear any piece or player on-line. I usually avoid restaurants with live music because the sound overpowers the conversation,

  13. Could we see a line item if those costs please...?!!

  14. @1:15Pm. Thanks, but since in reality you have never ventured out of Frogville, your opinions about nightlife don't really matter. Now if I want a detailed breakdown of Bob Evan's menu, I'll ask you.

  15. Hey 1:50pm isn’t about time you go to work waiting tables?

  16. This new mayor and council had best put an end to this handout; this is far and above ridiculous; with the property tax fiasco, voters are likely to never forget this anytime soon and so much taxpayer dollars has been wasted at 18th and vine and the place still cant function; it is just throwing good money after bad, CUT IT LOOSE!!!! It should make it on its own or shut down, enough of this handout welfare!!!!!

Appears people are trying to obtain paybacks for helping Quinton get elected mayor.
Several good ideas mentioned for the use of this area excluding the housing. Combine the ideas into one and push to get city hall behind it.

  18. I was in the 18th and Vine District earlier today. This is a City funded fantasy which was zero positive effects for the City. It was created to be a shell to employ folks period. Committees, Board of Directors, etc. This is what failure looks like when you empower corrupt council members.

  19. More of the endless subsidy of black culture myths while the real black 'culture' carries on with shooting and murder in the same spot.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Another example of how the city nickle and dime the 18th and Vine district. 100 million dollars over a almost 30 year period is nothing. Nothing meaningful can never be done as long as the city refuses to give 18th and Vine the same priority as the Power and Light, Crossroads, Plaza etc. Stop hating.

  21. Until the black community gives up the killer of the eight-year-old boy the black community gets nothing!

  22. Hating? Are you serious? Wishful thinking is not going to make this a must see tourist attraction in KC. Want exposure to the museums than put them at Union Station or the new Airport. Want the area to be an entertainment area? Make it a gayborhood and add a few gay bars. I’m being serious.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Another good idea. The gayborhood would keep the thugs away, give it some class and they would keep it up much better than a bunch of no show jobs.

  23. 5:15 add Harry Stone, Jonathan Porter and Jeffery McDonald to that list.

Add more bars and clubs. Make it a Westport for African-Americans. Maybe that will take some of the crime away from the Plaza, P&L, and Westport (maybe City Market?), and those areas may be more attractive again. Yes, there will be crime, vandalism, and even murder in this new "Blackport", but it can be easily contained, and easily policed.
And the crime would be at a minimum during the day, so nothing new than what is done now would need to be done to guarantee the continuity of the historical museums in the area.

  25. 1:50, you’re undoubtedly an authority on nightlife living in such a worldly metropolis as KCMO. Gosh, I bet when you put on your lacy panties and fuck-me heels and ride the trolley to P&L you feel just like you’re in NY, LA or Chicago, huh? And whether you throw hatchets or watch a Mizzou game on the big screen, it just oozes cosmopolitan sophistication doesn’t it? Lucky girl! You should write a book; I bet even the Kartrashians would want to read it.
