TKC BLOG COMMUNITY STAYS WINNING!!! COUNCIL ENDORSES STRICTER OVERSIGHT & LESS CASH AFTER OUTRAGE OVER ONE MILLION BUCKS FOR KANSAS CITY UNPROVEN $25K HOMICIDE TIP INCREASE!!!

Nobody gets a blank check.

No, this isn't a weird flex but, even better, we offer tribute to tax fighters and insiders who have shared concern about city hall spending in the name of a good cause but without enough info for voters.

To wit . . .

CREDIT TO OUR TKC BLOG COMMUNITY WHO PUSHED BACK AGAINST $25K HOMICIDE TIP INCREASE BLANK CHECK AND FOUGHT FOR MORE TRANSPARENCY!!!

Tonight, here's MSM follow-up on our bloggy FIRST NEWS . . .

FOX4: With TIPS Hotline running out of cash, CrimeStoppers seeks $1 million more from KCMO

The money line . . .

Council members would like police and the crime commission to provide regular reports on how public money is being spent. The committee did approve $310,000 more for the hotline, to go along with $190,000 already appropriated.

Elected leaders hope $500,000 will get the hotline through the end of the year, unless the pace continues to be one solved case per week.

In addition to rewards, the funding would also expand a second chance program for offenders and a scholastic crime stoppers program for young people.

The crime commission hopes to match tax money with $1 million in private contributions. That would pay for advertising and marketing the TIPS Hotline enhanced reward program.

Read betwixt the lines and don't wait by the phone for that corporate cash  . . .

KANSAS CITY INSIDERS WARNED US ABOUT ADVERTISING KICKBACKS WITH TAXPAYER CASH IN THE MAKING AND TOGETHER WE PUSHED BACK AGAINST THE SCHEME!!!

There's still more work to do and we have no doubt there will be another effort to sneak this money through the 12th & Oak system . . .

But for tonight, here's our teachable moment talking points . . .

- Just like D.C. even legislative efforts with the best of intentions are PACKED WITH PORK. With a few tips and a post our blog community helped to trim the fat today. And we'll continue to monitor the "social justice" entitlements pinned to this money.

- Again and again it deserves to be repeated: KC residents would rather have MORE COPS ON THE STREETS than any crime fighting effort based on sketchy data.

- Social media is mostly for rubes gossiping about corporate news and spying on frenemies. Together our blog community works behind the scenes to have a much more important conversation about policy that informs the discourse.

TKC doesn't take credit for this small victory because the fight continues and we're just a typing space monkey listening to smarter people.

Still, even modest yet successful push back outside of the mainstream against bad legislation deserves recognition and it comes by way of the d-bags who read this blog.

  1. Well that's sweet but it still won't top the new mayor making more anti-gun legislation.

    2. The manager can push a lot of the money through in smaller increments. Yes, more oversight is great but it's also concerning that the 2nd chance and education programs are tied to this money. Those are classic KC welfare schemes and handouts given to politically connected operators, not people who are really working hard for our community.

  3. One million dollars just to get people to do the right thing. That's why KC is headed in the wrong direction. This whole program is off base and will not be successful.

  4. Lucas is off to a typical amateurish KCMO start.
    Ready, FIRE, aim!
    When's the next election?
And who's the next great millenial hope?
Meanwhile the taxpayers' money pours out the door unabated.
    It never changes.

  5. ^^^ +100

KC is on the way to bankruptcy if even our crime fighting programs are forced to raid the general fund.

  7. KC "public safety" is just one of many scams. But they'll never catch up to developers or our "entertainment" districts.

  13. If they need more tip money, why not dissolve those dumb and useless groups like NoVa and Mothers in Charge. Those are some of the biggest wastes of money on the budget.

  17. Het, at least there's a chance of someone actually living in KCMO getting their hands on some of this money, rather than it just being poured into the pocket of some Johnson County Real Estate Developer.

  18. There is a billboard by the Isle of Capri Casino facing southbound I-35. The billboard has a picture of a black homicide victim killed in KC. The billboard is asking for tips. Who thought North of the River drivers should be the key audience for this billboard. Clearly it was a waste of money.
