Tonight newsies and social media pundits clamor over the possible sale of the Kansas City Royals instead of wondering about the latest antics of the Queen or how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.
To wit . . .
KANSAS CITY DISTRACTED: AMID A TRAGIC MURDER SPREE LOCAL NEWS WORKS HARD TO FIND HOPE FOR THE NEARLY IRREDEEMABLE TEAM & TOWN!!!
As always, we remind readers that the world series win was just a fluke and the team is the beneficiary of moneyball luck. And so the cash out isn't so much "news" as it is an inevitability.
Maybe the new boss . . .
Forbes put the value of the Royals at $1 billion in April. The magazine ranked the team 28th in terms of valuation among the 30 Major League Baseball teams.
John Sherman built up Kansas City-based Inergy LP through numerous mergers before the company combined with Crestwood Holdings in 2013, creating a $7 billion midstream energy partnership. Earlier still, he started LPG Services Group in 1991 and sold it to Dynegy for $8.6 million in 1996.
After the Inergy deal, Sherman turned to investment and philanthropy. He also developed an interest in owning a professional sports team. Working with advisory firm Game Plan, he got in touch with the Dolan family, owners of the Cleveland Indians. He bought a minority stake in the team in 2016 and is vice chairman.
Royals spokesman tweet:
"The Kansas City Royals are not in a position to make any comments on the published speculation regarding any potential sale of the ball club. The Royals will make no further statements at this time."
Check the links:
The Athletic Started The Rumor: Rosenthal and Stark: The Royals are discussing a sale of the club
KCTV5: Multiple reports are indicating that Kansas City Royals owner David Glass is looking to sell the club, which he has owned since 2000.
KMBC: Glass negotiating with John Sherman
Fox4: Of course, so far, the two men haven't reached a deal, and if they did, it would have to be approved by all the other major league owners.
You decide . . .
Maybe some of the commenters should get together and buy the team instead. Then we could be sure it would be managed properly.
ReplyDeleteBwahahahahahahaha!
^^^ Sorry, bitcoin not accepted.
DeleteI knew there was an upside to this awful season.
ReplyDelete$1 billion
ReplyDeleteLOL
How about the Royals owners suck a dick and choke on the fact they were to greedy and cheap to keep good players, Ned Yost while I like the dude, him and Bob Sutton need to vacation together, and Yost needs to walk away. his time is up and while he collects millions every year, while the performance stays shit...its time for Yost to retire.
ReplyDeletebut I thought we were creating a tradition of winning here in the Midwest? I thought we were best. I guess not just more b******* hype from billionaires getting tax breaks.
ReplyDeleteHe's turning into a fossil and wants to enjoy life I suppose for a change.
ReplyDeleteSherman will have to prove he has enough net worth to withstand substantial losses.
ReplyDelete^^^ Good call. We need an owner with deeper pockets and who isn't a such a cheapskate.
ReplyDeleteFire Dayton Moore and things will improve quickly.
ReplyDeleteBottom Line...Nobody Got Shot.......
ReplyDeleteMaybe next year they could play at the legends! The rent is only $750,000 a season. Also it would look like the stands are full even if there are only 5000 people there.
ReplyDeleteNo one seems to remember that when David Glass bought the team he paid 90 million dollars. Lamar Hunt offered them 44 million and he was the only other bidder. I give Glass credit for saving the franchise from being contracted because at the time eliminating a team was something that MLB was looking at.
ReplyDeleteHunt tried to STEAL the team and no one seems to remember it.
Las Vegas is looking for a team. Bye bye Royals.
ReplyDelete^^^^ True & true. This should be the biggest fear and the biggest news. Bad deal for KC. Local owner is a longshot. The team isn't going to be here for long.
ReplyDeleteBaseball has lost its appeal with many young Americans. It’s dying a slow death. The baseball strike added another nail in the coffin. Look around. Johnson County moms and dads going to soccer practice.
ReplyDeleteI think 2015 was the highlight. Those of us who were lucky enough to see a few games and take part in the fun should never forget it. This move makes sense. I believe it really is the end of the Royals. KC will have to root for the Cards the same way they cheer the Chiefs.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun while it lasted.
It’s so funny listening to morons who know nothing about baseball or KC for that matter comment on sports. You morons don’t even know the dude who is going to buy the team lives in KC, sits on the board d of the Kauffman Center, and has been a Royals season ticket holder for decades!!! The Royals aren’t going anywhere morons! As a matter of fact, they will have a new downtown stadium in ten years. Book it. But by all means, keep talking out of your asses! Morons!
ReplyDelete^^^morons we may be but baseball has priced itself out of a family budget. KC is not big enough to be able to have money to support both teams. Families have to make a choice on where to spend their money.
ReplyDeleteBillionaire make a big buy.
ReplyDeleteThis helps anyone else how?
Didn't think so.
Please call me when they make the playoffs in another 27 years.
Think about it.
I agree with 9:23. You people are morons.
ReplyDeleteBye bye royals! Good riddance!
ReplyDeleteWhen they move they can take 18th Vine with them, free if they disassemble it.
ReplyDelete^^^ I’ll help them pack their bags! And that quarter million dollar plastic trumpet that cleaver bought with taxpayer money!
ReplyDeleteWhere would you put a stadium downtown?
ReplyDeleteCall slick Sly’s consulting
ReplyDeleteYou betcha! Wickham and James has all the answers! Like how they solved the busted pipes, stopped the murderous blacks from killing, repaired all the streets got an airport built without tax payers spending a dime! Wait, what? He didn’t do any of those things? He must be a perfect lobbyist for developers then!
ReplyDeleteDowntown baseball might work. First, you would have to get rid of bike riders, scooters, the streetcar and all the homosexuals. There are way too many faggots downtown and mostly they just like wearing women’s clothing and sucking dick.
ReplyDelete9:23 I got $1000.00 you are full of shit . Lets book it . Downtown Stadium in 10 years? Pony up big talker. WILL NEVER HAPPEN!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteRIGHT ON SCHEDULE
ReplyDeleteGet those new ownership talks going, and then make the deal contingent on a new downtown baseball stadium being agreed to and publicly financed.
Of the 4 downtown sites considered, SITE ONE (just East of the Sprint Center) gets the greenlight. But hey, isn't that where the Jackson County Jail sits? Exactly! The Jackson County Jail that will be torn down and replaced with a new facility elsewhere. More construction jobs, more infrastructure to keep KC's "momentum" going...haha!
Mayor Quinton is already coming around to the idea.
It's in the bag, with Quinton and Troy working out their differences. Now, who's going to be the first to promise a World Series victory after it opens?
Are the people really that stupid and tax themselves and pay for a rich man to have a team here.? And have a team of millionaires?
