Kansas City Weekly Power Rankings

Girl power hero Captain Marvel made many strong political statements but was still rebuked by critics and audiences alike. Similarly, we share this quick list of local moves and shakers who might not have garnered a great deal of comment love or popular support but remain bold & brash nontheless . . .

Take a look:

Kansas City Code Of Silence

After an 8-year-old was brutally gunned down in his sleep in a KCMO urban core neighborhood there's still no suspect info and activists are literally begging the community to come forward and report the killers. So far the call to action has been met with silence and that quietude continues to be one of the most powerful forces that rules not only local streets but also the corridors of municipal governing bodies.

Activists Saving East Side With Bike Paths

Local advocates claim that bike paths aren't just for cyclists. Furthermore, their argument is that greater transit access will uplift embattled neighborhoods throughout the inner city.

Nike Tribute To Kansas City Chiefs

A shoe drop has set the imagination of fanboys ablaze. The Kansas City Chiefs have their best shot at winning the big game in more than a generation and nothing will walk back the irrational exuberance surrounding the team. In fact, these shoes carry fans of the team to even greater heights of hysteria.

And so . . .

On this area code day and as always, this list has been compiled according to scientific TKC polling and market research data and it's a weekly comprehensive guide to local powerful people, trends and our times.

  1. political silence about corruption is one thing, it's bad and shouldn't be accepted. But let's be real, keeping quiet when a child has been murdered is a new low for KC.

    2. Honorable mention for those local Generation Z youngsters getting out there and settling scores with their hands. It's not all gunshots in KC. Sometimes, you can just get smacked in the head for talking that good shizz. As long as the damage isn't permanent, it's all good.

  7. @10:18 is right that it's a real low when an 8 year-old is murdered in his bed and no one has a thing to say.
But it's not a NEW low.
    It's been happening for years.
And with what passes for "leadership" in the black community, is likely to continue.
How's that new million dollars for 18th and Vine coming?
