Kansas City Weekly Power Rankings

For our late night denizens, here's a look at the KCMO movers & shakers who advanced their their local standing, garnered more influence or simply did their job admirably.

Checkit:

3rd District At-Large KCMO Councilman Brandon Ellington

More than any other elected official, Councilman Ellington has bee willing to LISTEN to local outcry regarding rising Jackson County property tax assessments and hopefully work toward a solution. His willingness to engage critics, activists and officials in order to consider every aspect of this issue, once again, starts his tenure as a standout on the Council

KCPD

They've confronted gunfire and tough questions from the public whilst remaining dedicated to the task of protecting KCMO neighborhoods as violence continues to ramp up during Summer 2019.

Kansas City Anti-Gun Advocates

As much as we may disagree, there's no denying the growing influence of local arguments against guns that are becoming more sophisticated, strident and effective. Recent mass shootings and so many local tragedies have ramped up outcry to crackdown on the 2nd Amendment from KC metro elected officials, authorities and activists.

As always . . .

  1. Honorable mention should be given to Quinton Lucas. Without must resistance he pushed forward legislation that is tantamount to stop & frisk. The only real hope of getting the guns away from young thugs. A good start Q!

  2. ^^ But he'll probably still win in 2020. Not weird, just expected.

  3. ^^^ Or maybe Pocahontas will beat him. Espeically if he doesn't follow NRA orders.

  4. I admire the native Americans that went down fighting. Don't blame the others that chose the reservation. Red CLoud swallowed pride and surrendered his band. Crazy horse surrendered the Lakota to save them but died rather than live 1 day in an iron house. Sitting Bull went down hard slain by reservation police, his own people by the way. These were all men in the truest sense of the word.

Indians turn in their guns and their freedom.

  6. But, but we are the gbmnt and would never legislate anything you don't want. You don't need dem guns! We will always protect you and your family, and will never, never overtax you nor give your money to others more deserving. And as elite leaders, we will invite disadvantaged folks into our own homes (unless they're white), as we insist you do the same thing. Single family homes are racist, and you WILL make room for an immigrant family if you want the free health care they have. Fifteen dollars an hour is the law. Laid off? Not our problem. We are de gbmnt !!!

  7. Liberal thinking.....Let the Gov tell you how to live, let the gov feed you, tell you what to do, when you can eat, how much you can eat, give you an allowance to live on, when you can go to the doctor and when you can't, where you can work.
Liberals couldn't stand on their own two feet if they had to. Liberals can't even take a crap without the Gov. Liberals cry "I want my socialism." spineless pukes!

  9. If Liberals had their way- and the KC Star editorial board- we would not be able to use gender specific pronouns- and would not be able to multi-task for fear of sensory overload.
Want a glimpse of their world that is mocked world-wide:

Liberals hate anyone they don’t agree with...hate.

  10. There are two problems with the article about Ellington. The writer says Ellington has been willing to listen. Lots of politicians will listen and talk but they don't actually do anything. Second, the council has no control over the property tax issue so who cares if he's listening about it?

  12. So how come the young men who committed the mass shootings lacked such empathy? Were they Catholic or private school graduates? My guess is that they were products of our failed public school system. How is that for root cause analysis?

  14. Oh, Epstein's "dead" so Trump is safe,
    Doo-dah, doo-dah,
And evidence found is surely "fake",
    Hip-hip, Hooray!

    Gwine to tweet all night,
    don't care what facts say,
I never met or partied with him,
    and now he's gone away.

  15. 9:12: How's that for totally unsubstantiated speculation and maybe a little projection???

  16. 10:44: Wow! Epstein is dead. How, um, convenient for Trump and all the others in Epstein's circle of friends.
