The Job: MacKenzie Mallon - KC STUDIO
On Jan. 26, "Discriminating Thieves: Nazi-Looted Art and Restitution" opened at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. It tells the stories, in fascinating detail, of four pieces that were looted by the Nazis during World War II, found when the war ended, returned to their rightful owners and legally acquired by the Nelson-Atkins.
That painting in the picture is on the 2nd floor of the Nelson.
ReplyDeleteIt is fuckin hilarious!
Dude (As I remember, is a German, or, maybe Polish General (?) - no matter.) is all decked out, pointing to a city he just burned, just BEAMING!!!!
The caption should be "War Is Hell!! RIGHT????"
He just looks so fuckin happy with himself. The painting is excellent, you can imagine the cries of the wounded, burned, raped reverberating from the within the smoke.
The juxtaposition of how we think about war now, splashed into the canvas so many years ago, set against this era, with the incongruity of his pride and conceit at this devastation just cracks me up.
Whatever...
Another successful white male, right chuck? I'm embracing white power just like you said I should.
