KCMO public libraries to begin extended hours next week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Big changes are coming to Kansas City, Missouri, public libraries starting next week. After voters approved an 8-cent increase on the property tax-based operating levy last November, nearly all of the Kansas City Public Library branches will be extending their hours.

  1. We are in the Mid-Continent Library system, and books are the least used items. First, the computers are set up for game players and You Tubers. Second, there are more movies checked out than books. They should have partnered with Blockbuster or Netflix because that is what the libraries have become. Finally, the "lost people" have found the chairs and couches to be their temporary homes. Recommend that the libraries remove the comfy couches and padded chairs to eliminate the nappers. Books? Who reads books anymore?

  5. 8:28: Not sure about Mid-Continent, but in the KC and JOCO libraries books are still a biggie. Come and take a look at the hold shelves if you want proof.
